South Miami Middle Community School Center for the Arts was named an Arts Achieve! Model School by Florida Alliance for Arts Education (FAAE). Only six other public schools in Florida were received this honor for providing exemplary arts programs, arts integration programs, instructional settings and community connections.
“South Miami Middle Community School Center for the Arts is honored to be recognized with the distinction of being an Arts Achieve Model School,” said Sandy Baron, Magnet lead teacher. “‘Nurturing the Highest Aspirations of the Human Spirit Through the Arts’ is our mission, our vision and our reality. The students who are accepted into our Magnet Visual and Performing Arts Program are guided through their specific arts education with this statement as their main focus. We feel especially honored to be recognized by an organization that understands and lives our vision and works so hard to promote arts in the schools.”
The school’s administrators and teachers were presented with scholarships to FAAE’s annual Leadership Summit in Orlando in June. Members of the winning schools will be recognized at the conference. They’ll also have the opportunity to further strengthen their engagement with arts education best practices and connect with other arts educators and administrators from around the state.
“Our teachers are constantly working to advance the students in their commitment to their art, as well as being supportive of their academic instruction,” Ms. Baron said. “The talent and commitment of our teachers, along with the energy, excitement and enthusiasm of our students, makes for an amazing result.”

“The support and cooperation the Magnet department receives from the school’s administration, academic faculty, staff and community creates an environment of success and unity,” Ms. Baron added.
