Dr. Nilza Kallos, using new 3D mammography known as Tomosynthesis, diagnosed several breast cancers recently that were too small to see on regular 2D images. What makes this outcome of significant consequence is that without the breakthrough technology of Tomosynthesis, the cancer would have gone undiagnosed until it became large enough to view on the 2D equipment – thus putting the patients life in dire jeopardy.
Tomosynthesis is the newest advancement in breast health, and is poised to revolutionize how breast cancer is detected today. The Breast Health Center & Diagnostic Ultrasound is the first group of physicians in Miami to offer the 3D mammography system.
“Tomosynthesis allows us to examine the breast one layer at a time, slice by slice, by creating a three-dimensional mammogram that was never possible before,” says Dr. Kallos, a leader in breast imaging. “It eliminates the superposition of images that often require extra views and possibly unnecessary biopsies.”
The roll of 3D mammography is especially critical in women with dense breasts, a family history or other risk factors for breast cancer. With that in mind, The Breast Health Center is offering Tomosynthesis at NO CHARGE—during its first year of utilization—when done together with a routine screening mammogram for women in this high-risk category.
