At Miami Dermatology and Laser Institute, board certified dermatologist, Jill Waibel, M.D., specializes in cutaneous laser surgery and has successfully developed industry leading procedures for the treatment of scars, including acne, surgery, trauma and burn scars.

Although cutaneous laser surgery and the treatment of burn survivors are Dr. Waibel’s primary passions, her expertise and experience in this field only enhances her ability to treat patients in general, cosmetic and general dermatology.

“We have 15 different types of lasers at the center and they all deliver different results,” said Dr. Waibel. “We are one of the few centers in the country offering this level of laser technology. The innovative laser treatments we offer benefit both medical and cosmetic outcomes.”

Dr. Waibel has received national media coverage on 20/20, the Today Show, ABC News and People and Glamour magazines for her laser treatment of the Berns triplets from Texas. Trae, Chandra and Jordan Berns were severely burned nearly 20 years ago in a fire that destroyed their home and took the life of their mother when they were 17 months old.

While searching on-line, the girls discovered that Dr. Waibel had been successfully treating burn scars with laser therapy. Dr. Waibel partnered with the manufacturer of the Lumenis Ultrapulse TotalFX laser to provide complimentary treatments for the triplets. The girls, who are now attending college, just visited Dr. Waibel’s center for another treatment and said that the treatments have been life changing.

“With this laser, the scars are vaporized, and as a result new, healthy skin and collagen have been stimulated and formed,” explained Dr. Waibel.

Dr.Waibel recently moved her practice from Palm Beach to the Snapper Creek Professional Center on Galloway Road in Miami. She serves as a Clinical Voluntary Professor at University of Miami and is involved in clinical trials for the improvement of general, cosmetic and laser dermatology and is the primary investigator studying the use of laser treatments on burn patients.

“We’re currently studying the delivery of stem-cells through the skin,” Dr. Waibel said. “With this technology, we’ll be able to grow new skin, new hair, new pigment and beyond. The possibilities are endless.”

Dr. Waibel is seeking additional patients for three of her studies, including burn survivors and those who have scars from breast cancer surgery and open heart surgery.

“These patients will receive state of the art therapies at no cost to them,” Dr. Waibel added.

Burn survivors from all over the world visit Dr. Waibel’s center and she partners with Jackson Memorial Hospital to offer pro-bono laser treatments to burn patients. A documentary following the treatments and lives of several of her patients is currently in production.

“All burn survivors are very inspirational. They have endured a great deal of pain, both physical and emotional. Together, we shed many tears of sadness and tears of joy,” said Dr. Waibel.

Dr. Waibel’s goal is to effectively treat all skin conditions to help people look and feel their best. Besides the treatment of scars, Dr. Waibel also offers treatment for brown spots, rosacea, facial spider veins, port wine stains, acne and sun damage. She also offers popular cosmetic treatments such as laser hair removal, Botox® and cosmetic dermal fillers.

“We live longer and stay healthy longer, so it’s only natural that we want to look our best,” said Dr. Waibel. “Taking care of the skin after age 40 is like taking care of your home. It’s best to do a little upkeep every year.”

Dr. Waibel completed medical school and her dermatology residency at the Wright State School of Medicine, graduating Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society at the top of her class. She is a Fellow in the American Academy of Dermatology and a diplomat of the American Board of Dermatology.

Dr. Jill Waibel Laser Center is located in the Snapper Creek Professional Center on Galloway Road, just south of Sunset Drive. The address is 7800 SW 87 Avenue, Suite B200.
