Jeffrey Epstein, M.D., FACS, and Anthony Bared, M.D., are now offering Ultherapy at their offices, located in South Miami. Ultherapy uses ultrasound technology and the body’s own natural healing process to lift and tighten loose skin on the eyebrow, neck, décolleté and under the chin. It is the only FDA-approved treatment for a non-surgical lift of these facial and chest areas.
Ultherapy deposits focused ultrasound energy to the deep structural support layers of the skin, without disturbing the surface of the skin. This energy causes the tissue to contract and stimulates the collagen underneath the skin, explains Dr. Bared.
“Although facial plastic surgery is our specialty, we’ve introduced this treatment because it is proving to be very successful for patients who are not quite ready for a surgical procedure,” said Dr. Bared.
As experienced facial plastic surgeons, who better to determine when surgery, versus a non-invasive procedure, is indicated? Both doctors feel that Ultherapy has an important role.
A good candidate for Ultherapy is someone in their 40s or 50s whose skin has relaxed and looks and feels less firm, Dr. Bared says. The procedure also is a good option for younger people who want to gracefully combat the signs of aging.
Dr. Bared adds, “Ultherapy is an excellent technique to help tighten the skin on patients who have had a facelift or brow lift and are seeking some tightening now that time has passed. No cutting, no recovery, just a subtle to moderate improvement.”
Ultherapy is non-invasive, so it requires no sedation. The procedure takes about 90 minutes to 2 hours to treat all facial areas and requires no downtime.
“Patients can return to their normal activities right away,” Dr. Bared said. “They will see tightening and uplifting of lax skin over the course of three months, and may continue to see improvement for up to six months. It’s important to note that Ultherapy does not deliver surgical results. But, it delivers results that meet the goals and expectations of many of our patients.”
For the best outcome, Dr. Bared often recommends that certain patients partner Ultherapy with other procedures that treat the skin and face at different depths. Laser treatments, for example, address issues in the superficial layers of the skin, like fine lines, wrinkles and sun spots. Fillers such as Sculptra or Voluma address the deeper layers to provide more youthful volume.
“All these treatments, in an experienced surgeon’s hands, are excellent at treating the aging face at different levels,” Dr. Bared said.
Over the past 20 years, patients from all 50 United States and over 80 countries have traveled to be treated at Dr. Bared’s and Dr. Epstein’s Foundation for Hair Restoration and Plastic Surgery, located in the Sunset Professional Building, 6280 Sunset Drive, Suite 504.
