South Florida After-School All-Stars’ 5th Annual Gala is Food and Entertainment Heaven

After-school-logoThe South Florida After-School All-Stars will celebrate its 5th annual gala at the Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum on Saturday, April 13th, 2013 at 7PM. This year’s reception not only pays special tribute to some of South Florida’s most honorable contributors to children’s education, it also features the largest entertainment and food line up in the gala’s history.

This year’s honorees include the Honorable Mattie Bower, Mayor, City of Miami Beach, Miami radio legend DJ Laz, Dr. Michael Alessandri, Executive Director, UM/NSU Center for Autism & Related Disabilities and Director of the Division of Community Outreach and Engagement and Clinical Professor of Psychology and Pediatrics at the University of Miami and Ms. Jo Marie Payton, Actress/Singer/Children’s Advocate.

The honorees and the 200 plus expected guests will indulge in a spectrum of arts from fashion to music, an award winning culinary exposition, special performances and more all in an attempt to raise $1,000,000. Salumeria, Tantra, The Front Porch Café, and South Beach’s newest sensation, Barock, are among the restaurants providing their delectable bites.

Artists, Anastasia the Great, whose clients include Bill Clinton, Pope John Paul II, and Stanford Ziff, will be doing a live painting demonstration. The CEO of Ms. Latina International and Ms. International World, Angela Posillico, will host the event and red carpet, along with her models and titleholders (full list below). The ladies will also be wearing designs by Castro Rojas. Charlyn Castro Rojas is also the current reigning Ms. Latina International, in addition to being an international designer. Czech Republic music icon DJ Hana will be spinning the hottest beats.

“This year’s Gala is unlike anything we have ever done before. We want our honorees and guests to have a sensory experience that’s unmatched to any other event. This is Art Basel, Fashion Week, Food and Wine Festival, all rolled up into one,” said Nicole Shelley. “We think guests will be talking about this evening long after it’s over.”

All proceeds from the evening support the daily programs of the South Florida After-School All-Stars which to date support approximately 4500 kids and 32 middle schools daily in Miami Dade County.
The South Florida After-School All-Stars affords each child an opportunity to become further enriched in the areas of academics, enrichment, and health and fitness, keeping them engaged, while keeping the kids, communities, neighborhoods and businesses safe.

Founded by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in Los Angeles, California, the South Florida After-School All-Stars was known as the Inner City Games. Subsequently, in 1995, the Inner City Games was later renamed the After-School All-Stars, with 13 chapters throughout the country including our very own South Florida After-School All-Stars. Since its inception and steadfast mission to better impact the lives of inner city students preparing them for success in school and in life, the South Florida After-School All-Stars is the largest national organization specifically focused on serving middle school age students.
