Horst pic 2Horst Huebner passed away peacefully May 24, 2016 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Born in Berlin, Germany on April 20,1934, the eldest of six children, he trained as a blacksmith before immigrating to Canada. Working first in Ontario, then Alberta, he went to Alaska to help build the Alaskan pipe line. He relocated to New York City in the 1960s and managed many night clubs with Hilly Kristal of CBGB. In the late 1970s he moved to Miami, owning and managing properties in Coral Gables and South Miami, most recently under the name of HORSH Management, Inc. He was a founder and charter member of the Lipton Tennis Tournament, now known as the Miami Open.

Horst and his wife Shirley were residents of South Miami and Coral Gables for more than 30 years and were active participants in City events, advocating for the greater good of the City. His buildings on 59th Court, Avenue and Place were always festively lighted for the holidays.

He was a forward thinking apartment owner and manager, loved and respected by friends, staff and business associates. A strong and honest business man who touched all he met and taught by strength, kindness and example.
