Lots of new faces showed up to the meeting: Abe and Kai of Sushi Maki, Eddie Boas of Lanes, and Karla Cooper of American Chariots, were some who came back to add their expertise to the greater good. The meeting was held in the lobby of The First National Bank of South Miami September 14 with Ana of My Healthy Cuisine bringing the food. Ana’s speciality is catering individual healthy meals that match requirements of the South Beach Diet. The healthy food was much appreciated.
Members stepped up to join the 14 committees that will make up the lifeblood of RSMA for the coming year (and likely for years to come).

Halloween will be here before you know it. RSMA members have stepped up to make this years even the best ever. Shops Sunset will have entertainment at their Sunset entrance. A Haunted House at Veronica’s Dollhouse. Also on SW 57 Courtt. will be a costume contest, 52 Pick Up for Hay Rides, and a Photo Op from Sir Galloway Cleaners with clowns, stilt walkers and (I heard) a scary dance company performingThriller at 6 p.m.
PARKING TASK FORCE: CHAIRPERSON, KARLA COOPER, AMERICAN CHARIOTS. MEMBERS: ED BOAS, LANES, STEVEN KAGAN, BEVERLY KAGAN JEWELRY AND WILLY QUINTANA OF SEGAFREDO
This task force is reviewing valet contracts from all valet vendors in the area. They will do discovery from restaurants, and merchants, whose viewpoints no doubt differ, and make recommendations that hopefully will satisfy all parties. They’re also looking at remedies for employee parking, and work to implement at least some improvement in this area.

RMSA has two new sites underway:: one to handle the business of the association, RSMASM.com, and the other a consumer site with all the bells and whistles. Extensive marketing opportunities will exist for members with both sites to launch by mid-November.
SAVOR SOMI FLAVOR: CO CHAIRS MARY SCOTT RUSSELL AND VERONICA FLORES The Chamber South Arts Festival is here again with the committee working to help local restaurants present their culinary arts at this year Chamber South Arts Festival. Great way for our new restaurants to put food in the mouths of thousands of potential customers.
SOMI ART WALK: CHAIRPERSON JOHN EDWARD SMITH, SOMI MAGAZINE SOMI Artwalk 2010-2011 Season is alive and well with new businesses interested in participating and a good program is planned for the year. A steering committee is already in place, with two openings available. Mark your calendar for the first art night of the season on Friday October 8.

Mother’s Day is a critical selling opportunity for Red Sunset Merchants. We are going to capitalize on the strength we already have with this market and create the next tradition in our community. A community-wide celebration is planned to take place the Friday and Saturday before Mother’s Day. Lots’ of creative ideas swirling around this one with funds in the budget from “special events”. It’s an honor to serve this wonderful organization. Nearly 100 members of the RSMA working together to make sure we save what makes SoMi special and grow what we need.
