Larkin Community Hospital’s Advanced Education in General Dentistry Program has been granted CODA Accreditation

Larkin Health Sciences Institute announces proposal for Charter Middle School in Naranja

Larkin Community Hospital’s Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) residency has been accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) for its postdoctoral training program.* The newly accredited program is a boon for areas of Central and South Florida facing severe shortages of dentists.

The Larkin Community Hospital AEGD program enrolled its first class in July 2014 with 17 resident positions available through Larkin Community Hospital and affiliated clinical training sites in Orlando, Miami Beach, Miami, and Homestead, Florida. The program enrolls residents for one year with an optional postgraduate second year.

Residents receive advanced clinical training at community health centers such as Orange Blossom Family Health Center, Miami Beach Community Health Center, Jessie Trice Community Health Center, Borinquen Medical Centers of Miami- Dade, and Community Health of South Florida, Inc.

These centers are generally primary healthcare, outpatient facilities located in medically underserved areas, providing communities with access to a full range of medical and dental services.

Robert Perdomo III, Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer of Graduate Dental Education at Larkin Community Hospital, says that “this much needed program enhances access to dental care in areas of Central and South Florida that most need it. Our residents gain experience in modern, well-equipped settings with chairside dental assistants, operatory facilities, and the most up-to-date dental materials and supplies-all while learning the importance of providing care to the most vulnerable patients.”

Graduates of the Larkin Community Hospital AEGD program have bright futures in private practice, public health dentistry, advanced specialty training and academic/research dentistry, and are dedicated to providing comprehensive oral health care of the highest quality to diverse communities.

*The Larkin AEGD postdoctoral program has been granted the accreditation status of “approval without reporting requirements.” This postdoctoral program is not one of the American Dental Association recognized dental specialty areas. Therefore, dentists graduating from this program cannot announce that they are specialists, as recognized by the American Dental Association.
