SMDCAC set to present touring production of musical Godspell

Godspell, the beloved musical from Stephen Schwartz, the Grammy and Academy Award-winning composer of Wicked, is coming to the South Miami- Dade Cultural Arts Center, 10950 SW 211 St. in Cutler Bay, on Saturday, Jan. 18, 8 p.m., and Sunday, Jan. 19, 3 p.m.

Theatergoers will enjoy all the good gifts of one of the most enduring Broadway shows of all time in a brand new intimate, one-of-a-kind production. This Tony-nominated score is filled with the popular hits, Day by Day, Light of the World, and Turn Back, O Man.

It is a timeless tale of friendship, loyalty, and love that has touched the hearts of countless theatergoers all over the world — and now the South Florida community can join in the celebration as a spectacular ensemble of bright young Broadway stars stirs our souls, raises our spirits and lift us right out of our seats.

Godspell opened off Broadway on May 17, 1971, and has played in various touring companies and revivals many times since, including a 2011 revival, which played on Broadway from Oct. 13, 2011 to June 24, 2012. Several cast albums have been released over the years and one of its songs, Day by Day, from the original cast album reached No. 13 on the Billboard pop singles chart in the summer of 1972.
