I couldn’t let the passing of Code Enforcement Officer David Springer go by without comment on the loss to our organization. David was, what you might call, a quiet person. He was also one of the most reliable employees you could ever have.
David was hired in 2011 as a Park Attendant, then became a Parking and Code Enforcement Officer. On his own, he completed all four levels of Code Enforcement Certification, never asking for any recognition.
At one point it became difficult for the City to fill weekend Code Enforcement shifts. No one likes to work every weekend, and if you have a family and young children, it is even harder. David volunteered to work steady weekends in order for the other employees to be with their families, or participate in other activities.
One of his tasks was to collect the parking meter revenue. I would run into David most weekends in or around City Hall. He always had a kind word when I would see him doing his job. It became obvious he was sick in his last few months, but didn’t miss a day of work.
David Springer will be sorely missed by the City of Sunny Isles Beach.
