Property Appraiser Pedro J. Garcia has mailed the Notice of Proposed Property Taxes (TRIM) to all property owners.
Included is a guide to help them better understand their proposed taxes. The mailing also contains a letter from Garcia informing property owners, who believe their property may be over assessed, to complete an Informal Assessment Review Form. This process will help address any value concerns they may have much quicker than appealing through the Value Adjustment Board (VAB). Also, note that the TRIM Notice is available anytime, online at www.miamidade.gov/pa.
The notice has important information about each individual property, including:
• The property’s assessed value as of Jan. 1, 2015;
• Any exemptions applied to the property;
• The proposed taxes calculated based on the taxing authorities’ proposed millage rates, and
• The dates, times, and venues of budget hearings for each of the taxing authorities.
In a statement Property Appraiser Garcia said, “I strongly encourage property owners to review their TRIM Notice closely so they may be better informed about their property taxes.”
Additionally, the letter lists upcoming outreach events, which allow property owners the opportunity to meet personally with the Property Appraiser and his staff. Property owners should bring any documents that may support an assessment reduction, such as appraisals, photographs and insurance claim paperwork.

Appraiser’s Office in Downtown Miami is located at 111 NW First St., Eighth Floor, the South Dade Government Center at 10710 SW 211 St., Second Floor, Mon. – Fri., 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. The deadline for filing an appeal with the Value Adjustment Board this year is Friday, Sept. 18.
Tax bills will be mailed by the Tax Collector by the beginning of November.
