Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida, nurtured and grown under the direction of Ballet Master Vladimir Issaev since October of 1997, leaps into its 15th Season starting October 6th, 2012 and ending with their Spring Gala on May 12, 2013. South Florida ballet fans will be treated to a season of mixed styles that will include Verdi, Giant Mice, and Little Green Onions, all presented by Arts Ballet Theatre’s professional corps of 14 dancers! The season will unofficially begin in September 2012 with a collaboration between Arts Ballet Theatre and Opera Atelier of Miami when together they will perform Donizetti’s’ Lucia de Lammermoor.
After successful performances in New York City, Miami, Aventura, and Latin America, the Great Opera Moments series comes to the Broward Performing Arts Center in an original production that offers the audience a varied view of grand opera with authentic components of operatic performance: live singing and music, acting, costumes, lighting and scenery integrated in an aesthetic concept inspired in the classical tradition and incorporating elements from other performing, media, and visual arts. In this integration of the arts, we are privileged to feature the special participation of guest artists from the Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida, in an original choreography from prestigious choreographer Vladimir Issaev, Artistic Director of the Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida. Anthological scenes from well-known operas comprise the program: Puccini’s La Bohème, and Donizetti’s masterpieces Don Pasquale, La Favorita and Lucia di Lammermoor, including Lucia’s tragic Mad Scene.

But the Arts Ballet Theatre Season 15 will officially open on October 6th, 2012 with a contemporary program that will include the modern work of choreographer Yanis Pikieris. The piece entitled Danzon, with music of Arturo Marquez, is vibrant and exciting.
Also on the season opener program is Four Seasons – a piece with the music of Verdi (not Vivaldi) first performed at the Mariinsky Theater in Russia . The work was created by Maestro Vladimir Issaev for four couples, and each pas de deux is a showcase of the extraordinary abilities of each dancer.
The program will conclude with Fuga con Pajarillo, with the music of Aldemaro Romero and the choreography of Vladimir Issaev, which was recently presented in New York at the Latin Choreographers Festival with a resounding success. The piece first premiered in 2008 as a tribute to the famous Venezuelan composer.

In March, Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida will bring back the family favorite “Chipolino” – a beautiful ballet in two acts, choreographed by Ballet Master Vladimir Issaev to the music of Russian composer K. Katchaturian. This ballet is based on Gianni Rodari’s tale about vegetables. It is the story of a naughty “green onion” character by the name of Chipolino who fights the unjust treatment of his fellow vegetable townfolk by the fruit royalty (Princess Lemon and overly proud Senorita Tomato) in the garden kingdom.
Through music and dance, “Chipolino” not only tells the fanciful folk tale, but also expresses a much deeper political statement – the struggle of the underclass and the powerful, good versus evil, and the importance of friendship in the face of difficulties. “Chipolino” will capture the imaginations of both adults and children and the production is enhanced by the costumes designed by Jorge Gallardo and creative sets by Elena Bond.
