There are celebrations that require formal wear, fancy jewelry and dinners served by gloved waiters. And the city that has earned the nickname, “The Height of Living” could have done the same. But Sunny Isles Beach, known for its luxurious hotels and white sandy beaches, decided to celebrate their 26th anniversary on their fabulous, world-renowned beach.

Guests were encouraged to bring their beach chairs and towels to find their place in the sand to enjoy the celebration. Free parking was available at the Sunny Isles Beach Government Center and Gateway Center with the SIB Shuttle running a special event route transporting guests to each event location. Selling out quickly were wristbands that included the choice of a meal at one of the three food service locations with the food prepared by their hotel partners, the Sole’ Miami, Trump International Beach Resort and the Newport Beachside Hotel and Resort, as well as a swag bag and cake pop dessert. Throughout the evening, the beach was open to all residents.

A beachfront concert included performances by Viva Classic Rock and DJ Salty, with large LED screens projecting the performances from 180th Street to 163rd Street. Sandcastle building and strolling performers added to the fun in the sand. In honor of their Sister City, Hengchun, Taiwan, the colorful Chinese dragons were there to enchant the crowd. Chinese dragons symbolize wisdom, power, and wealth, and they are believed to bring good luck, and they did just that as the weather was perfect for a beach party. Ocean Rescue and Sunny Isles Beach Police were on hand to assist residents throughout the evening.

“Hosting our 26th anniversary on the beach was extra special,” said Mayor Svechin. “We were able to showcase one of our best attributes while spreading the party out to a greater audience.”

The City’s Media Manager, Leah Einwalter said that she had never seen so many messages, tags and positive emojis flooding the City’s direct messages on Instagram. “They were all so positive” commented Leah, “The drone show was definitely a big hit! It was customized to Sunny Isles Beach including features that make our city so special such as the sunrise, ocean, fishing pier, soccer and basketball in our parks, and our logo lit up the night.” Gayle Vasile, Director of Cultural & Community Services, noted “It was great working with the hotels in our community. They really came out for our residents and showcased the quality of the services they offer. We partnered with Trump International Beach Resort to the north, Sole Miami in the center and the Newport Beachside Resort to the south.”

The City of Sunny Isles Beach Government Center is located at 18070 Collins Avenue, Sunny Isles Beach 33160. 305.947.0606. www.sibfl.net
