Classical South Florida buys Fort Myers WAYJ

In some FM radio station wheeling and dealing, Classical South Florida has bought WAYJ of Fort Myers from Way Media, and Way Media in turn bought the Naples station WSRX from the Family Christian Broadcast Network. The WAY programming currently heard on WAYJ will move up the dial to 89.5 FM.

“WAY-FM started in Fort Myers back in 1987,” said WAY Media founder and president Bob Augsburg. “Southwest Florida is still very strategic for us, and we’re simply moving a short way up the dial. Most listeners will hear us on 89.5 FM, while those in Charlotte County will be able to tune us in at 100.5 FM. We’re excited about this switch, which will allow WAY Media to launch a suite of new digital initiatives.”

At the same time, CSF president and general manager Douglas Evans said the move will mean a return of classical music to Southwest Florida.

“We’re tremendously excited to have the opportunity to bring classical music back to the Southwest Florida airwaves,” said Evans.

“Classical South Florida was launched in Southeast Florida in the fall of 2007 and its programming can now be heard from the Upper Keys to the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast. Soon our programming will reach Southwest Florida as well, from Fort Myers to Naples and Marco Island.”

The acquisitions require approval by the Federal Communications Commission before program changes can take place. Eddie Esserman of Media Services Group was the broker for the transaction, representing WAY Media. He may be reached at 912.634.6575.
