Miami-Dade County Commissioner Sally A. Heyman, District 4, has awarded the Michael-Ann Russell JCC $5,000 for their Learn to Swim Program. The program is offered in conjunction with the Miami-Dade Police Department to provide swim lessons to children whose families would otherwise not be able to participate in life safety swimming skills programs. This partnership program, free to children residing in Miami- Dade County, has been in place for years.
“I am happy to be able to provide the funding for this valuable program,” said Commissioner Heyman. “I’ve been a proud sponsor of the Learn to Swim Program at the Michael-Ann Russell JCC for several years because I believe all children need to be empowered with these life-safety skills, especially with all of the water sites in South Florida.”
Commissioner Heyman has also donated $2,846 to the Miami-Dade Parks Foundation Love-In. The Love-In is an annual signature event of the Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department held at Greynolds Park featuring an outdoor festival and live concerts celebrating the music of the ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s.
“I’m proud to be an annual sponsor of the Love-In,” said Commissioner Heyman. “It has become a great annual event providing musical entertainment and activities for adults and children to enjoy.”
The sum total of $7846.00 represents monies re-allocated from the Miami Open Tennis to District 4 for community and recreational use.
