At a recent Sunny Isles Beach City Commission Meeting, the members of the Finance Department were recognized for their contribution to the City’s achieving the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA). This is the seventh consecutive year that the City has received this highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting; “…however this was the most significant and meritorious year that we received this award,” said City Manager Christopher J. Russo. He goes on to explain, “The departure of our former Finance Director and also our Controller during the height of budget season last year resulted in other senior staff and department heads pulling together and completing the final budget document along with the remaining staff of the finance department. This group did a superb job under difficult circumstances until our new Finance Director and Assistant Finance Director came on board to complete the final budget adoption process.”

In order to receive the award, the City had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity’s budget serves as: a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide and a communications device. Budget documents must be rated “proficient” in all four categories to receive the award.

The City of Sunny Isles Beach adopted its Fiscal Year 2013/2014 Budget in September of 2013. The total budget for all funds is approximately $93 million. To view copies of the City’s current and recent past budgets; go to our website at sibfl.net
