The significant event begins at 10 a.m. in the parking lot next to John Knox Village’s Heritage Tower and will feature a number of guest speakers, includingCity of Pompano Beach Mayor Lamar Fisher.
“John Knox Village has become the leader in healthcare in the Pompano Beach. It is the largest healthcare provider and employer in the City. The Woodlands (at John Knox Village) will continue this leadership. It will be the pinnacle of our cultural change,” Mayor Fisher said during the official Groundbreaking Ceremony in July last year.
A Tree Topping Ceremony, or Topping-off Ceremony, is a tradition in the construction industry that is celebrated once the final beam is in place or concrete poured to complete the building’s structure. It recognizes reaching the maximum height and the accomplishments of the construction team’s safety during the most challenging point of the construction process.
Overseeing the construction of The Woodlands at John Knox Village is The Weitz Company (www.weitz.com), a nationally-renowned company that has offices in South Florida.
The upcoming ceremony will acknowledge the construction efforts, as well as follow tradition by placing a tree on top of the structure. At the top of The Woodlands at John Knox Village will be a Christmas Palm donated by the hired landscaping company, Nanak’s Landscaping, Inc. in Deerfield Beach. Also placed on top will be an American Flag.
Overall construction of The Woodlands at John Knox Village, a $34-plus million project, is expected to be completed in 2016. The new skilled nursing center is the first in Florida to adopt The Green House model of care, an innovative, nationally recognized initiative that acknowledges the individuality of seniors and honors their autonomy, choice, privacy and dignity.
The Woodlands at John Knox Village will provide a new level of person-centered care that gives seniors meaningful life in a loving home and empowers staff that is dedicated to protecting, sustaining and nurturing the lives of our seniors.
“(The Woodlands) will embrace The Green House concept of having small homes in which the care is provided. Each home features a small compact area for 12 seniors surrounded by a hearth/living room, an open kitchen and fireplace in a comfortable setting,” said Robert Scharmann, John Knox Village President. “This will be the jewel of John Knox Village’s 65-acre campus.”
The building will feature of total of seven floors and 144 private rooms and bathrooms. Each of the top six floors will have two Green House homes that will accommodate 12 seniors per home for short-term rehabilitative services and long-term nursing care. The first floor features a multi-purpose convocation room, bistro, rehabilitation services, a spa and an area for training purposes.
The Woodlands at John Knox Village was designed by RDG Planning & Design (Architects John Birge, Scott Pfeifer and Kevin Ruff). The Village is closely working with Gallo Herbert Architects (William Gallo), which is serving as the Owner’s Authorization Representative.
