There were more than 125 seniors who attended our Sunny Isles Beach Social Senior Special Event, our first of the new season, which was held at the Pelican Community Center on Thursday October 18th, 2012.
The Palace Group, headed by VP of Marketing and Sales Adam Rosenblum, in collaboration with University of Miami’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI), hosted a Titanic series in Sunny Isles Beach, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the cruise ship’s maiden voyage. When we all closed our eyes and then opened them, we were all transported back in time -100 years- to enjoy an unbelievable presentation and a delicious lunch with the captain of the famed RMS Titanic, Edward J. Smith.
Captain Smith was portrayed by Robert Dawson, who told his entertaining and spellbinding experiences aboard the ships of White Star Lines.
Chef Rolf Nettesheim created an exquisite menu featuring the authentic cuisine served to First Class guests aboard the Titanic with items such as Beef Wellington, Coconut Shrimp, Salmon with Mousseline, Roasted Duck, Rack of Lamb Provencal and a delectable Waldorf Pudding.
Enjoying this spectacular show and great food, along with our Social Seniors, were Vice Mayor Lewis Thaler, Commissioner Isaac Aelion, Commissioner Jeannette Gatto, Commissioner Jennifer Levin, former Commissioner Irving Turetsky, Former Commissioner Gerry Goodman, Former Commissioner Roslyn Brezin, City Historian Richard Schulman, City Manager Chris Russo and Harvey Busch, Chairman of the City Advisory Committee.
This event was just outstanding in every way, and I want to thank everyone who had a hand in putting it together. We will be having nine more
Social Senior events this season and I would like every one to join us for our next event on Thursday November 8th 2012 in this very same room.
