Specialty Camps – Special Fun

By Inna Kartunova….
City of Sunny Isles Beach has completed another successful program: Summer Camps 2011, provided by the joint efforts of Pelican Community Park’s staff. Almost 500 children were able to attend those camps this summer.

Along with traditional camps, the city had offered a number of Specialty Camps this summer: Musical Theatre, Circus, Art of Superheroes, Lego Robotics.

Musical Theater campers were introduced to different dance styles such as Ballet, Hip Hop, Jazz, and Contemporary Modern Dance, as well as to singing and acting. Two weeks of this exciting camp ended with a beautiful showcase, where students demonstrated what they learned in camp.

Circus Camp was a non-competitive physical art form, where campers learned basics of aerial arts, juggling, acrobatics, circus style dance routines, and much more. Young acrobats and jugglers prepared a colorful presentation for the final Talent Show.

Art of Superheroes camp offered easy-to-follow secrets and techniques for drawing. Students learned to draw to incorporate their favorite superheroes and create their own comic book page and cover.

Lego Robotics camp engaged participants in a hands-on approach to the exciting world of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Campers used specialized Lego pieces and computer instructions to build robots and to program them to follow various tasks and commands.

And of course at the end of the summer, by tradition, the culmination of the camp activities became the talent show, which once again was awesome this year!

All joint efforts of students, counselors, teachers and administrative staff of Pelican Community Park were fully rewarded by children’s happy smiles and parents’ appreciation. Good bye Summer Camp; Hello New School Year!
