Yippee Aye! St. Lawrence Catholic School hosted a fun-filled, western-themed literacy night on October 3, 2017. All students, parents, and teachers were invited to our “Lasso a Great Book” literacy event to learn about various ways reading can be fun, participated in entertaining literacy games, listened to classical western-themed folksongs, sampled delicious southwestern treats, and enjoyed tall tales and historical fiction selections.
All parents were provided with research proven literacy techniques to implement at home. “It’s important that we [teachers] provide our students’ parents with literacy tools and resources they can use at home. Together, we are a team in educating their children,” stated Denise Broughton, middle school teacher.
At St. Lawrence Catholic School literacy skills are valued as a top teaching priority. Teachers use outstanding instructional methods and current technology, including iPads, to ensure that each student makes great strides to reach individualized reading level goals.
