On a recent vacation to Italy, Harry Frahm holds a copy of the Sunny Isles Beach Sun Community Newspaper at the only active volcano on mainland Europe. This stratovolcano is famous for the 79 A.D. eruption that destroyed the city of Pompeii. It is one of the most dangerous volcanos because of the large population centers that surround it and because the eruptions are explosive. The volcano usually erupts about once every twenty years, but it has not had a serious explosive eruption since 1944.
