4th Annual SIB Jazz Fest

The Sunny Isles Beach 4th Annual Jazz Fest kicks off with a new event on Thursday night, October 13th, 2011. The City will host the Biscayne Triangle Truck Round-up (BTTR). This popular group of food trucks will be parked at Pelican Community Park, 18115 North Bay Road from 5:30 – 10:00pm that evening. Take a night off from cooking and bring the family out to enjoy music from a DJ and food available for purchase from a wide variety of gourmet food trucks.

This evening will also include our annual art auction, where an original work of art representing the Jazz Fest is unveiled and auctioned off to the highest bidder to benefit charity. This year’s featured artist is Stephen Gamson. The official art poster will also be available for purchase that night for $10. The proceeds of the art auction and poster sales will benefit two Miami charities, the Joshua’s Heart Foundation, which strives to “Stomp out Hunger” by providing necessities such as food and water to individuals in underserved communities and the Miami Children’s Hospital Foundation (www.mchf.org), which aims to create awareness, funds and involvement for Miami Children’s Hospital through donations and charity fundraising events.

Our Friday evening of jazz this year will be held on October 14th at 7:30pm at the Newport Beachside Hotel & Resort, 16701 Collins Avenue. Enjoy the unique sound of Venezuelan born Maria Rivas in the intimate setting of the Ocean Reef Room. Maria’s style combines Tropical pop, Latin jazz with a mix of indigenous overtones. Her award winning career speaks to her talent and commitment to her craft. Tickets are priced very reasonably at $28 per person. Contact the Newport directly to purchase your tickets at 305.949.1300.

On Saturday, October 15th from 6:30 – 10:00pm our main event moves to our newest and largest park. There will be plenty of room to spread out your blankets on the large open lawn at Heritage Park, 19200 Collins Avenue. The main act will be world famous Spyro Gyra. The band has stood the test of time and has sold more than 10 million copies of their 25 albums over the years. Acting as Master of Ceremonies will be local radio host Stu Grant. Opening acts for Spiro Gyra will include Tony Madruga and the University of Miami Frost Concert Band. Gates open at 6:00pm. Remember to bring your own blanket or chair. General Admission tickets are $25. Paid parking is available at the park and next to the park under the Lehman Causeway. The Special Event Community Shuttle bus will be running throughout the evening to bring patrons from any point in the City to the concert venue. The bus will continue to run after the event is over to take residents home.
