Associated Builders & Contractors distributed hundreds of bikes, helmets and locks to South Florida children during 17th annual Handlebars for the Holidays this Saturday, December 8th.

Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc., Florida East Coast Chapter (ABC-FEC) celebrates 17 years of community giving by raising money to donate 200 bikes, helmets, locks and bike safety programs to local children in need with it’s annual Handlebars for the Holidays.

Each year, ABC-FEC partners with several local area non-profit groups – including the Boys and Girls Club, Kids in Distress and Children’s Harbor – to select the kids who will receive a bike, helmet and bike lock. Each December, about 25 volunteers and their families gather at the ABC headquarters in Coconut Creek, to distribute the bikes. In addition to getting a brand new bike, the kids get to visit with Santa Claus and learn about bike safety from a local police officer.

“We feel deeply rewarded for helping others as a big part of what we do and seeing those smiling faces when the kids receive their new bikes is inspiring,” said Peter Dyga, ABC-FEC President and CEO. “It’s also great to see the generosity and enthusiasm from our members, especially in these tough economic times” says Dyga.

Handlebars for the Holidays is just one of several charitable events that ABC-FEC sponsors each year through the ABC Cares Foundation. Over the last 12 years, they have donated more than $960,000 to the local community, nearly half of which helps this event to thrive.

All media is invited to attend bike distribution day on Saturday, December 8th from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. held at the ABC Headquarters, 3720 Coconut Creek Parkway, Coconut Creek, FL 33066. For more information about program participation, please contact ABC-FEC via their website www.abceastflorida.com or 954.984.0075.
