Property Appraiser Pedro J. Garcia mailed out on Friday, Dec. 28, 2018 important tax-saving exemption benefit information to both new and current property owners in Miami-Dade County.
Approximately 15,000 Homestead Exemption applications and 408,000 Homestead Exemptions renewal forms were mailed to property owners. Online filing also is available on the website at www.miamidade.gov/pa.
Property owners are encouraged to read their renewal receipts and fraud flyer carefully to ensure they still qualify for their exemption(s). If the property owners remain eligible in 2019, no further action is needed; they should keep the document for their records. However, if they no longer qualify for their exemption(s), they should sign the cancellation portion of the receipt and return it to the Office of the Property Appraiser at 111 NW First St., Suite 710, Miami, FL 33128 by Friday, Mar. 1. Florida law requires property owners to notify the Property Appraiser when they no longer qualify for an exemption.
