The Center for Family and Child Enrichment (CFCE), the oldest and largest provider of child welfare services in the City of Miami Gardens, is hosting its second annual walkathon on May 28, 2011. The event celebrates the month of May as National Foster Care Month, commemorating the more than 400,000 children across the nation in foster care. CFCE provides full case management and care for over nine hundred children in the State Dependency System and manages more than 100 foster homes most of which are located in Miami Gardens.
The Walk-a-Thon raises funds to assist in providing services to the dependent youth and their foster families. The event will once again be held at Scott Lake Park, 17710 N.W. 15th Court. In addition to the walkathon, the event will feature free fun and exciting activities for the entire family, including bounce houses, food, DJ’s with music, etc. A brief program will feature information on how to become a foster parent and remarks by North Dade Foster Parent Association president, Shamele Jenkins. Activities begin at 8:00 a.m. and will continue to 12:00 p.m. For more information and to register for the walk, call (305)474-1722.
