Mount Sinai Medical Center is proud to announce the groundbreaking of its new state-of-the-art emergency center in Westchester, which will open in mid-2026. This marks the beginning of a multi-phase project that will ultimately become Mount Sinai’s second hospital in South Florida and represents a significant milestone in its mission to improve access to high quality medical care throughout Miami-Dade County.

Located in the heart of Westchester at 8200 SW Eighth St, the new emergency center will offer a full range of emergency care services to the area’s 50,000 residents from day one. Following its opening, the facility will gradually expand into a larger medical center to include essential outpatient and inpatient care. Designed to address the rapidly growing needs of the community, this major healthcare project builds up to the standard of excellence for which Mount Sinai is nationally recognized.

The construction project will be completed in three phases. Phase One involves developing a four-story building that spans 112,000 square feet, nearly twice the size of Mount Sinai’s Hialeah facility. This phase will feature Mount Sinai’s largest freestanding emergency department (FSED), equipped with 27 emergency bays, a Baker Act receiving unit, and advanced imaging services (MRIs, CT scans, ultrasounds). The FSED is expected to open in mid-2026. Additionally, the first floor will house a café and cafeteria to enhance the experience for patients and visitors.

Phase Two will be the build out of the second-fourth floors, which will include inpatient and observation beds, along with a procedural platform that will include surgery, cardiac catheterization, gastrointestinal procedures, and post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) services. Pending the finalization of the design, this phase is targeted for completion in late 2027.

Currently in the early planning stages, Phase Three will introduce a second building for outpatient multi-specialty practices. Together, these facilities will improve access to emergency and specialty care for the Westchester community and the surrounding areas, eliminating the need for long-distance travel for medical services.

The Westchester location is Mount Sinai’s latest step in its broader goal of bringing high-quality care to underserved areas of South Florida. It follows recent expansions in East Hialeah and Key West.
