Maria Alejandra Castaño: Passionate Leadership at Loretta & the Butcher

Coconut Grove, Miami’s oldest neighborhood, has quietly evolved into one of South Florida’s most successful business communities – and it’s no accident. With its blend of charm, strategy, and community, the Grove offers a blueprint for how local economies can thrive.

At the heart of its success is a strong sense of community. And at the heart of the Grove’s bustling downtown district are independent businesses, like Loretta and the Butcher on Commodore Plaza, with Maria Alejandra Castaño at the helm.

By cultivating a loyal customer base that values authenticity and true connection, Castaño’s quaint bistro tucked between the busy shops and other businesses on Commodore Plaza has fast become a beloved neighborhood staple.

“Since the very beginning, we wanted to be more than just a restaurant. We’ve built real relationships with our guests and with other businesses in the Grove. We know their names, their favorite dishes, and make each visit one that feels like they’re home.” The loyalty and warmth of their customers continue to fuel the restaurant’s growth.

    Culinary Passion

With a passion for Argentine cuisine and making guests feel at home, she’s created a fine restaurant that’s a one way ticket to Buenos Aires. Her journey proves that with the right ingredients, vision, and boldness, anything is possible.

Beyond perfecting beef, Loretta & the Butcher honors an iconic Argentine culinary tradition, led by the passionate and determined Castaño. As a powerful woman in a male-dominated industry, she runs a restaurant that embodies authenticity, quality, and community in the deepest sense.

Castaño’s love for food began in her childhood, growing up in Colombia where meals are a symbol of unity and tradition. “Since I was a little girl, cooking has been my passion and my way of expression. And I’ve always been fascinated by how the right dish can tell a story, awaken emotions, and bring people together.”

Her admiration for Argentina’s beloved cuisine eventually led her to acquire Loretta & the Butcher, where she brings the essence of la parrilla (Argentine grill) to the Grove. With respect for each cut of meat and a dedication to using the highest quality ingredients, she ensures each dish represents the true flavors of Argentina.

“Loretta & the Butcher is more than a restaurant; it’s a total experience. We want patrons to feel transported to Argentina through flavors, aromas, and the welcoming warmth of the atmosphere.”

What Makes an Argentine Grill Great?

A true Argentine “parrilla” is more than just grilled meats, it’s a whole ritual. “Everything starts with the highest quality cuts, cooked over fire with patience. Coarse salt is all the seasoning that’s needed to highlight the succulent meat’s true flavor.”

But beyond the food, it’s about connection. “A true parrilla is meant to be shared with friends and family, with melted provoleta, a glass of wine, and, of course, chimichurri to add the final touch. It’s about friends and family gathering around the grill, living in the moment filled with passion.” At Loretta & the Butcher, every meal is designed to capture that spirit.

    Breaking Restaurant Industry Barriers

Running a restaurant as a woman comes with some challenges, but Castaño has always met them head-on with the utmost confidence and perseverance. “The biggest challenge has been breaking biases and stereotypes in a typically male-dominated industry, and proving that female leadership is equally strong and strategic.”

Balancing her roles as a businesswoman, mother, and wife is no easy feat, but Castaño has cultivated a restaurant known for both excellence and inclusivity. “Seeing Loretta and the Butcher grow, curating a unique experience, and being passionate about leadership shows that you can balance those three crucial roles without giving up your dreams.”

    The True Taste of Argentina

Loretta & the Butcher’s menu is specifically curated to immerse their guests in the authentic Argentine flavor. Signature dishes include bife de chorizo, ojo de bife, and entraña, all grilled to perfection.

Another standout is Arroz del Gaucho, a bold, comforting dish that echoes Argentina’s rich culinary traditions, alongside their world-famous empanadas, crispy on the outside, boasting a variety of fillings, and bursting with flavor inside. Each dish transports guests straight to Buenos Aires, one bite at a time.

What’s Next for Loretta & the Butcher?

Looking ahead, Maria Alejandra envisions expanding Loretta & the Butcher while maintaining its warm and welcoming atmosphere. “We’re exploring new opportunities to bring our delicious dishes to even more people, all without losing the signature warmth that defines us.”

Her journey is far from over, and that passion burns bright, strong as ever. “Oh, I believe the best is yet to come,” she says.

The Two Hundred Club dinner features new sheriff

The Two Hundred Club dinner features new sheriff

The Two Hundred Club of Greater Miami held its semi-annual dinner at the Riviera Country Club on Apr. 15.

The evening featured guest as speaker Miami-Dade County’s new sheriff and first female to hold that position, Rosie Cordero-Stutz. After her talk she fielded questions for a very appreciative audience whose support has helped so many families of our fallen heroes.

Since its inception in 1968, the club has distributed to families of police officers and firefighter who were killed in the line of duty in excess of $1 million. This club does not seek public funds but relies on its club investments, dues, donations and bequests.

Among the record crowd attending the affair with this writer were 200 Club president Ann Pierce Stith; Bill Bermont; Trish and Dan Bell; Ed and Carol Williamson; James and Lorena Hartenstein; Jon and Anne Goldman; Lynn Bauer and Dr. Hal Wanless; Kadie Black; Mary Snow, Eddie Snow; Dr. Paul George; Robin and Susan Shelley; Dr. Richard Souviron; Jim Skinner; Karen and Richard Hauser; Charlette Seidel; Chief Edward James Hudak Jr.; Bruce Bounds; and Phil Lyons.

In other non-profit news, Comic Kids co-founder and fine art dealer Kat Barrow-Horth recently spoke to Coral Gables Rotarians about the non-profit she co-founded with her husband, Reed. The couple wanted to share their talents with a goal of providing vulnerable youth with access to art by teaching them how to draw comic, cartoon, and book characters.

They work with children in pediatric hospitals, foster care, homeless shelters and those suffering from abuse and neglect, providing them with art classes, art supplies, art books, and providing their educators with additional art resources.

The work has not gone unnoticed. In fact, you may have seen these two amazing people as guests on the Kelly Clarkson Show where they spoke about the non-profit’s start and mission. For info on how you can support this program, visit wwww.comickids.org.

In other news, collaborations have proven to be effective ways for organizations to make valuable connections and strengthen their outreach. On Apr. 8, Fogo de Chão hosted a joint mixer of business groups — the South Dade Chamber and the Greater Kendall Business Association as well as one of the oldest business networking groups in South Florida, Profit Inc.

It was an electrifying night and hats off to South Dade Chamber’s Rick Alberti and Profit Inc. and GKBA’s president Carlos Ribero for giving such value to their membership. The very next day, these groups met in our Miami’s Community Newspapers South Miami Office for another mixer sponsored by Dade County Federal Credit Union.

Speaking of Profit Inc., the group changed things up a bit in April holding its third Thursday lunch at Mojitos on SW Eighth Street. Profit Inc., which was founded well before any BNI groups, is unique as a category exclusive organization. It does not require members to give or to refer business but somehow it works better because it happens organically. Those interested in learning more may visit www.profitinc.org.

On the education scene, 600-plus parents and star students representing more than 50 Independent Schools in South Florida (ISSF) gathered at the Miami Airport Convention Center on Apr. 9 for the 33rd annual “Star Awards” Luncheon recognizing top all around student chosen by the schools.

ISSF president Cheryl Rogers with ISSF executive director Dr. Teri Logan welcomed the guests and thanked sponsors, in particular the Coral Gables Woman’s Club, for their support for ISSF’s annual spelling and geography bees.

Some of the area schools participating in the luncheon with their star students were Carrollton School — Cora Carruthers, Chiara Ortiz, Anna Tang; Epiphany Catholic School — Lucas Chacon, Micole Fay, Patrick Pargas; Ransom Everglades — Porter Sanderson, Liv Brantley, Lily Knoll; St. Philip’s Episcopal School — Isidro Ferrer, Alexandra Saladrigas, Matteo Massaro Cassanello; St. Steven’s Episcopal Day School — Nora Centero, Nevin Rhyner, Carolina Weber; St. Theresa Catholic School — Ericka Alfonso, Amelia Banos, Nithin Koka, and St. Thomas Episcopal Parish School — Samantha Cejas, Tiffany Romberg, Mason Saieh.

Our area women’s clubs are packing the spring calendar with a variety of interesting and fun events. Coral Gables Woman’s Club has a monthly Art Club night making everything for painted wine glasses to holiday decorations. CGWC’s Art Chair Alex Guillen, gathered the group on Apr. 16, to make Easter wind chimes or, in this writer’s case, a mobile.

Coming up next, CGWC has its Mother’s Day Tea on Saturday, May 10. This is a great way to celebrate moms, daughters and best friends and, best of all, the proceeds help the club provide free dental services for 500 children of the working poor every year at its Children Dental Clinic.

Finally, The Women Voice Network is growing its membership and volunteer base to help train and economically empower women who are victims of domestic violence and human trafficking. The recent board meeting, held at Sergio’s in Doral, founder Iris Garcia reported on some new corporate memberships including the Coral Gables Woman’s Club and a new volunteer and individual member, Gabrielle Joseph, of His Helping Hands, another non-profit doing great work.

Here are some other events to mark on your calendar.

May 10 — Coral Gables Woman’s Club Mother’s Day Tea, tickets are $150 perperson, for info visit www.gfwccoralgableswomansclub.org

May 16 — Eighth annual Tee Off for a Cause Charity Golf Tournament at Red Tiger Golf Course. Call 305-882-1305, ext. 104 or send email to safehaven@asafehavenfornewborns.com

May 16 — United HomeCare’s 30th annual Claude Pepper Awards Luncheon, 11 a.m., at The Pullman Hotel

June 28 — Coral Gables Woman’s Club fundraiser, cruise on new ship MSC World America, 7 nights/8 days from $959. For more info, call 954-900-5942 or visit www.HappeningOutTravel/CGWC/

In closing, remember to count your blessings, share a kind word and a smile, and make a difference.

A Brand-New Miami International Airport is Coming

A Brand-New Miami International Airport is Coming

We all have a love-hate relationship with MIA. No one can deny that it is an international hub with just about every airline at our disposal, taking us to all corners of the world. And, in the same breath, we all have a story about how MIA has failed to meet our expectations.

When Miami International Airport first opened 97 years ago, the world (and Miami) were very different places. Last year 56 million passengers came through MIA, as well as 3 million tons of cargo. Overall, MIA generates an estimated $118 billion in business revenue for the State.

County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava recognized this as an opportunity to get better and has championed for a major move forward with her Future-Ready: Modernization in Action Plan.

Through the Modernization in Action Plan, 126 passenger loading bridges, 203 public bathrooms, and 616 conveyance units (elevators, escalators, and moving walkways) are being renovated in phases over the next 5-7 years. They have already seen major improvements in the uptime for passenger conveyance, but know they have more to do.

I interviewed the Mayor and the Director/CEO of Miami International Airport to hear about the work-in-progress and what is still to come. A new garage (named the Ibis Garage) is slated to open in late 2025, adding 25% additional capacity. A whole new terminal will also break ground in June. Terminal K will be the home to narrow-body planes.

I particularly liked that they will be replacing all of the boarding bridges with an all-glass design. This will eliminate the claustrophobia that many people have when boarding and de-boarding. There is also a brand-new AI driven signage implementation that will even take advantage of your smartphone to visually guide you to where you are going. And, MIA is the first airport in the country to have autonomous wheelchairs for when the hand-pushed ones are overwhelmed with customers.

With so much to learn about, I present the whole interview for you to explore at: youtu.be/BRCuiZRfwGc (note: CAPS and lower case letters are important!)

    nnier Skies in Florida Tourism
Tourism is a major economic driver for Florida, contributing billions of dollars in revenue annually through visitor spending. It supports a substantial portion of jobs in the State, both directly in the tourism industry (hotels, restaurants, attractions) and indirectly through related sectors. So, it is very good that everyone wants to be in the Sunshine State. But this is rapidly changing, and soon our beloved Florida may have a massive problem on its hands.

Canadians account for about a quarter of the international travelers to Florida. A recent study reveals a steep decline in Canadian demand for travel to the U.S., especially to Florida. According to aviation data firm OAG, advance bookings for Canada-U.S. flights between April and September have dropped by more than 70% compared to the same period last year. “This sharp drop suggests that travelers are holding off on making reservations, likely due to ongoing uncertainty surrounding the broader trade dispute,” says OAG chief analyst John Grant. In response, airlines are also cutting back on cross-border flight capacity — a clear indication they’re experiencing weaker demand as well.

Canadian Scott Lamb says he’s about as pro-American as one can get. He grew up in a border town near Buffalo, NY. His dad is a dual citizen. He has a close cousin in Vero Beach and has often traveled to the United States, including to Florida. Recently, he has changed his tune, “I won’t go back to the U.S. until some sort of sanity prevails.” He says he is reacting to when President Donald Trump repeatedly threatened to turn Canada into the 51st state and referred to the prime minister as “governor.” Since then, Lamb vowed to stay away and backed this up with trips to Bermuda and the Cayman Islands. He loved these spots so much that he is now bringing his mom along for the next trip.

All of this comes on the heels of some pretty spectacularly good news for the State. In February, Governor Ron DeSantis announced that Florida continues to be the top destination for travelers from all over the world as it welcomed a record-breaking 142.9 million visitors in 2024. This marks a 1.6% increase over 2023, the previous record annual visitation in the state’s history. “The results are clear—Florida is the best place to visit, live, and do business,” said DeSantis. “Another record-breaking year is proof that leadership matters, and the Free State of Florida is a model for the nation.”

Tourism helps drive the real estate market as well. People come to South Florida and fall in love with our weather. Some are compelled enough by our sunshine to want their own home in the sun. It stands to reason that if tourism is down, we can expect weaker demand for our homes. At present, it appears weaker international tourism will be at play in 2025. The question is whether domestic vacationers will also scale back their Florida getaways.

I continue to see signs of a much more balanced real estate market. Sellers are being more approachable on things like repairs and providing credits to buy down interest rates so that their deal can close. In short, smart and flexible buyers and sellers are getting it done, despite growing headwinds. Tourism builds Florida up, but a slowdown does not necessarily mean a takedown for our residential real estate market.

    Real Estate Update

Fat Ham: Three-company co-production on stage at Biltmore, May 16-June 15

GableStage Theatre Company will present the South Florida premiere of Fat Ham by James Ijames, in a bold co-production with Island City Stage and Brévo Theatre.

Following its critically acclaimed run in Fort Lauderdale’s Island City Stage, this Pulitzer Prize-winning reinvention of Shakespeare’s Hamlet plays in Coral Gables, at GableStage’s historic Biltmore Hotel home from May 16 to June 15.

Fat Ham takes Shakespeare’s most famous tragedy and flips the script with juicy Southern flair. Set at a North Carolina backyard barbecue, the story follows Juicy, a Black queer young man grappling with questions of identity, vengeance, and generational trauma.

When the ghost of his father demands retribution, Juicy must decide whether to break the cycles of violence — or become a part of them. What unfolds is a hilarious and heartfelt exploration of masculinity, family, and forgiveness.

Fat Ham is outrageous, smart, and full of theatrical mischief — but underneath the jokes and karaoke, it delivers a powerful and necessary punch.

“This production is a testament to the power of reimagining stories through fresh cultural lenses,” shared Brévo Theatre producing artistic director Terrence “TM” Pride, who also is directing the production. “Fat Ham brings a dynamic and relevant perspective to a classic work, making it accessible and resonant for today’s audiences.”

Originally produced by Philadelphia’s storied Wilma Theatre in 2021, Fat Ham premiered off-Broadway at the Public Theatre the next year to overwhelmingly positive reviews before transferring to Broadway in 2023.

This historic, three-company co-production marks the South Florida premiere.

“The thrilling collaboration between the three companies resulted from a shared admiration for this deliciously defiant, laugh-out-loud, genre-busting new work, coupled with a collective desire to reach wider audiences,” said GableStage producing artistic director Bari Newport. “That a foundation like Warten Foundation would step forward to make this possible, is all the more… juicy!”

GableStage’s run of Fat Ham includes a robust schedule of community engagement events:
    • Ham It Up: Post-show barbecue and conversation on June 15, catered by Sunni Speaks.
    • Who Made the Potato Salad?: A community gathering and culinary debate on May 25.
    • Mosaic Miami Presents: Can We Talk? A Ham-plified Conversation: Post-show panel on May 23, moderated by Matt Anderson, executive director of Mosaic Miami), addressing generational shifts and LGBTQ+ acceptance in Black families.

This Miami run is made possible through the generous support of The Warten Foundation, whose landmark $250,000 grant funded this historic collaboration. Additional support comes from Gene Sulzberger, Knight Foundation, City of Coral Gables, the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs, and the Miami-Dade County Mayor and Board of County Commissioners.

The performance runs one hour and 35 minutes with no intermission, and will play from May 16 to June 15; 7:30 p.m. performances will be offered Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays; 2 p.m. matinee performances will be offered on Wednesdays and Sundays, and the last Saturday of the run.

Tickets begin at $40, with special rates for artists, military personnel, and groups of 8 or more. Tickets may be purchased by visiting www.GableStage.org or by calling 305-445-1119. Students and teachers may attend any performance free of charge through GableStage’s Student/Teacher Rush. Arrive 45 minutes before showtime and fill any empty seat. Student/Teacher ID required.

South Florida Youth Symphony closes 60th season on May 18

South Florida Youth Symphony closes 60th season on May 18

Three students — a composer, a conductor and a cello soloist — will make their performance debuts as the South Florida Youth Symphony, an Emmy and Gold Medal Award-winning ensemble, concludes its 60th season on May 18 at the Herbert and Nicole Wertheim Performing Arts Center, located at Florida International University’s Modesto A. Maidique Campus, 10910 SW 17 St.

The concert, which features student composer/conductor Jaden Chairez, conductor Hytritonee Lamp-Moseley and cello soloist George Maroudas, begins at 4 p.m. with a reception to follow. In addition to the debuts, the finale concert will feature performances by all training divisions of the SFYS and 25 distinguished alumni.

Tickets are $20 and available on the SFYS website, c.

Conductor Lamp-Moseley, 22, is a junior at New World School of the Arts College, while fellow conductor — and composer — Chairez is a 19-year-old Miami Dade College student. He will conduct his own composition, Overture. The third featured performer is 16-year-old cellist Maroudas, a junior at New World School of the Arts High School.

“By showcasing the talents of our composer, conductors, soloist and training divisions, this concert offers the community a glimpse into the many opportunities available to students in our music program,” said Marjorie Hahn, SFYS executive and music director. “These three young musicians have a bright future ahead of them.”

The SFYS program is sponsored with the support of Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs, Miami-Dade County Mayor and County Commissioners, The Children’s Trust, Miami-Dade County Office of Management and Budget, The Kirk Foundation, Publix Charities, The Nancy Friday Foundation, The James S. and John L. Knight Foundation and Miami Dade College, North Campus.

For tickets to the season finale or additional information on the South Florida Youth Symphony — which is preparing for its June 16-July 11 Summer Music Academy — contact the SFYS via email at MakeMusic@sfys.net or phone at 305-238-2729.

ISSF honors star students from more than 50 South Florida schools

ISSF honors star students from more than 50 South Florida schools

Six hundred plus parents and star students representing more than 50 Independent Schools in South Florida (ISSF) gathered at the Miami Airport Convention Center on April 9, for the 33rd Annual “Star Awards” Luncheon recognizing top all around student chosen by the schools. ISSF President, Cheryl Rogers, with ISSF Executive Director, Dr. Teri Logan, welcomed the guests and thanked sponsors, in particular, the Coral Gables Woman’s Club for their support for ISSF’s annual spelling and geography bees. Among the Pinecrest area schools with their star student included Riviera Day & Preparatory School- Alexander Goncherov, Emma Lopez, Rafael Moro, Sydney Zanca; Palmetto Bay Academy- Juliana Addison, Luca Miklo, Victoria Pinheiro; Gulliver Prep- Thaddeus Slamker, Zakary Latham, Olivia Gabay, Alejandro Cuono, Margarita Velez; St Louis Covenant School – Noah Gestodo, Luciana Planas, Lucas Torres; and Temple Beth Am -Rambam Day School- Avery Kaplan, Ellie Goldstein; Ayla Fisch.

The Two Hundred Club of Greater Miami held its semi-annual dinner at the Riviera Country Club on April 15. The evening featured as its guest speaker Miami Dade County Police Department’s new sheriff and first female to hold that position, Rosie Cordero-Stutz. After Rosie’s talk she fielded questions for a very appreciative audience whose support has helped so many families who died in the line of duty. Since its inception in 1968, the Club has distributed in excess of $1 million to families of fallen police officers and firefighters. Richard Souviron; Jim Skinner; Karen and Richard Hauser; Charlette Seidel; Chief Edward James Hudak, Jr.; Bruce Bounds; and Phil Lyons.

In other non-profit news, the Rotary Club of Coral Gables as its guest speaker, Comic Kids’ co-founder and fine art dealer, Kat Barrow-Horth. Kat shared how she and her husband, Reed, wanted to use their talents and passion for art by providing vulnerable youth with access to art and teaching them how to draw comic, cartoon, and book characters, something they relate to and enjoy. The couple works with children in pediatric hospitals, foster care, homeless shelters and those suffering from abuse and neglect, providing them with art classes, art supplies, art books, and providing their educators with additional art resources. The work has not gone unnoticed. In fact, you may have seen these two amazing people as guests on the Kelly Clarkson Show where they spoke about the non-profit’s start and mission. For info on how you can support their charitable outreach, visit wwww.comickids.org.

In other news, collaborations have proven to be effective ways for organizations to make valuable connections and strengthen their outreach. On April 8, Fogo de Chao hosted a joint mixer of 2 chambers of commerce, the South Dade Chamber and the Greater Kendall Business Association, as well as one of the oldest business networking groups in South Florida, Profit Inc. It was an electrifying night and hats off to South Dade Chamber Rick Alberti and Profit Inc. and GKBA’s president Carlos Ribero for giving such value to their membership. Among the guests were Don and Maria Van Orsdel, Rick Niedorf, Dr. Joyce Gomes Osman, Lillian Ser. The very next day, these groups met at Community Newspapers South Miami Office for another mixer sponsored by Dade Federal Credit Union.

Speaking of Profit Inc., the group changed things up this month holding their third Thursday lunch at Mojitos on SW 8 Street. Profit Inc. was founded well before any BNI groups. Profit is unique as a category exclusive organization as it does not require members to give or refer business but somehow it works better because it happens organically. Those interested in learning more may visit www.profitinc.org.

Our area women’s clubs are packing the spring calendar with a variety of interesting and fun events. Coral Gables Woman’s Club has a monthly Art Club night making everything for painted wine glasses to holiday decorations. CGWC’s Art Chair Alex Guillen, gathered the group on April 16, to make Easter wind chimes or, in this writer’s case , a mobile. Coming up next, CGWC has its Mother’s Day Tea on Saturday May 10. This is a great way to celebrate moms, daughters and best friends and, best of all, the proceeds help the club provide free dental services for 500 children of the working poor every year at its Children Dental Clinic.

Finally, here are some dates to remember.
May 10 – Coral Gables Woman’s Club Mother’s Day Tea “Passage to India” / Tickets $150 pp– For info visit www.gfwccoralgableswomansclub.org

May 15 – Woman’s Cancer Association Grant Awards & Education Day Luncheon. 11:30 a.m. Coconut Grove Woman’s Club

Miami Music Project has announced it has been recognized as one of the 2025 Top 100 Women-Led Businesses in Florida by The Women’s Edge, a leading nonprofit advancing women’s leadership and impact.

This distinction honors president and CEO Anna Klimala’s transformational leadership at the helm of Miami Music Project since 2010. The official recognition will take place during an awards luncheon on Thursday, May 8, at Le Meridien in Dania Beach.

The Top 100 Women-Led Businesses ranks exceptional female executives and the organizations they lead, celebrating business acumen, innovation, and community contribution. Now in its fourth year, the Top 100 list highlights the immense economic and social impact women leaders have across industries in Florida.

“Being recognized among the top women-led organizations in the state affirms the power of purpose-driven leadership,” Klimala said. “At Miami Music Project, we believe music is a tool for social transformation, and this honor belongs to every student, Teaching Artist, and team member who make this mission a living reality to thousands of children across Miami.”

Named a Mover in Miami, Klimala is a musician, non-profit executive, educator, and youth empowerment activist. As president and CEO of Miami Music Project, she has grown it into one of the largest music education programs in the U.S,. raising over $24 million. She co-founded Teaching Artists Training Institute, El Sistema USA and music festivals in her native Poland. Her work has impacted over 60,000 youth.

Founded in 2008, Miami Music Project uses music education as an instrument for social change, providing free-of-charge programming to thousands of students in under-resourced communities. Under Klimala’s leadership, the organization has flourished, gaining national and international acclaim for its innovative approach to democratic access to arts education and its 100 percent high school graduation rate.

Miami Music Project has served over 33,000 youth with tuition-free, immersive, conservatory-level education, providing students with free instruments, homework help, mentorship, and academic support to numerous first-generation college applicants across Miami-Dade County.

In 2024, Klimala launched the Pathways: College Mentor Program, supporting the organization’s 100 percent graduation and 100 percent pursuit of higher education rate.

The program offers expert guidance on college applications, financial aid, scholarships, and career planning. Its impact was evident as two students were accepted into Columbia University, including one recipient of the prestigious QuestBridge Scholarship, a full-ride scholarship honoring excellence.

“The organizations on this year’s diverse list are driving innovation and revenue into the Florida economy,” said Elizabeth L. Hailer, CEO of The Women’s Edge. “We are honored to celebrate these leaders and their extraordinary impact.”

The award luncheon, described as more than a ceremony but a movement, will unveil the ranking number of each of the recognized female business leaders, executives, and changemakers to honor women shaping the future of Florida’s economy and communities.
