CITY’S INFILL AFFORDABLE HOUSING PROGRAM KICKOFF

By Vice Mayor Brandon Smith

Tuesday, February 27, 2024 was not only a “groundbreaking moment” for a future home, but a “groundbreaking movement” that displays our commitment as a city to tackle the affordable housing crisis in our county and state.

We began the City’s Infill Lot Affordable Housing Pilot Program back in 2018, sponsored by our then Vice Mayor Brian C. Johnson, and have been met with challenges and opposition along the way. However, with the help of our then County Commissioner, Barbara Sharief, and our relentless pursuit to see this initiative through, we now have lift off! I gave my word to Brian C. Johnson, upon his departure from the Commission, that I would not let all of his hard work and sacrifice go for nought.

A huge thanks to my fellow colleagues on the City Commission, Mayor Felicia Brunson and Commissioner Marvin Price, who understood the significance of this initiative, its relative impact/importance in our community and chose to be on the right side of history in our city!

Congratulations to Ms. Kim Cox and Kinetic Lifestyle Homes, a minority resident and local business owner in our city, on partnering with the City of West Park to bring quality affordable homes (4 bed, 2.5 bath, and 2 car garage) to our community.

We look forward to the completion of this project with great anticipation!
