EARN A BIKE is a hands-on learning and earning program for youth ages 10-17 that we were excited to offer our youth recently. Over the course of eight sessions, participants learned the basics of bicycle repair, maintenance and safe riding while refurbishing an abandoned bike. Students who completed at least six of the eight sessions earned the very bike they learned to build, including a brand new bike lock and helmet. The program was free to participants as all costs were covered by funders and community partners such as FLIPANY (Florida Introduces Physical Activity and Nutrition to Youth, Inc.), Urban Health Solutions/Partnerships, Broward Regional Health Planning Council, TOUCH – Transforming Our Community’s Health, and the City of West Park. For more information about this or other recreational programs, please call the Parks and Recreation Department at 954-985-1990 or e-mail Cesar Garcia at: cgarcia@cityofwestpark.org.
