From the Office of Commissioner Joy B. Smith
To the residents of West Park, as we are continuing to strive through this pandemic, I am pleading to all residents to be safe. Take precaution! If you are not vaccinated, please do so. It is very crucial as the hospitals are overwhelmed with COVID patients and the majority are not vaccinated. Please continue to wear your mask, wash your hands, sanitize, and keep a safe distance.
During the past few months, we have lost a lot of lives in West Park. Some tragedies resulted from domestic crimes throughout our streets, car accidents, and COVID-19 related deaths. My sincere condolences go out to the families and friends of all who have lost their lives during these trying times. On the other hand, we have had several incidents in West Park that have been in the media lately. With that being said, we need to come together as a community to keep our neighborhoods safe. If you see something, say something!
Also, a big thank you to our State Senator, Shevrin Jones and State Representative, Marie Woodson for representing us very well in our districts. Keep up the good work as we continue to give our support.
FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL
As the school year rolls in, I was granted the opportunity to visit some of our local schools such as Lake Forest Elementary, Watkins Elementary, ECB Educational Center, Henry McNeal Turner Learning Academy, Carver Ranches Daycare Center, and others on their first day back in the classrooms.
Finally, if you are not signed up for the text blast notifications, head over to the city website and sign up. Please get involved in the city meetings; we meet every first and third Wednesday of the month. The people are the power of the city, not the elected officials or employees!
As summer ends and as the year is winding down, I look forward to interacting with you at the activities for the upcoming holidays. Once again, let us go into the holiday season safely. If there is anything that I can do, please contact me by email at: jsmith@cityofwestpark.org or call me at: (954) 477-2943.
