The first half of 2025 has been a very busy period for infrastructure within the City of West Park. Recent efforts have included the procurement and implementation of several projects citywide including surtax-funded projects such as SW 21st Street and SW 48th Avenue Complete Street Improvements and Broward Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Citywide Sidewalk Restoration and ADA Compliance Phase 3.

SW 21ST STREET

Phase 1 (South SR 7 to SW 56th Avenue) of the SW 21st Street Complete Street Improvement Project most recently received:

  • Roadway resurfacing and swale regrading/re-sodding;
  • On street parking improvements;
  • Supplemental drainage; and
  • Sidewalk repairs and handicap ramp upgrades;

Roadway widening, sidewalk ramp upgrades, and swale improvements for Phase 2 (SW 56th Avenue to SW 40th Avenue) are currently in progress.  The final paving, traffic calming, and signing and marking elements for this entire project (Phases 1 and 2) are expected to be completed before the end of the year.

SW 48TH AVENUE

Phase 1 (County Line Road to Hallandale Beach Boulevard) of the SW 48th Avenue Complete Street Improvement Project most recently received:

  • Roadway resurfacing and swale regrading/re-sodding within the City of West Park limits;
  • Sidewalk repairs and handicap ramp upgrades.

Looking ahead, the final step for Phase 1 will see the installation of speed humps to further improve safety for both drivers and pedestrians. Permanent roadway striping and signage, including shared use bike lane markings, will also be completed, providing a polished and well-defined finish to the corridor.

Phase 2 of this project (north of Hallandale Beach Boulevard) has already begun and involves roadway widening to facilitate bike lanes, supplemental drainage, sidewalk improvements, speed humps, and landscaping.

These projects have delivered important improvements designed to improve safety, enhance accessibility, and create a smoother travel experience for the community.  For additional information pertaining to the SW 21st Street and SW 48th Avenue Improvements, please contact Senior Communication Specialist Gregory Harleston at 754-208-8826 or email: Gregory@Holtcommunications.net.

OTHER ENHANCEMENTS

In addition to the aforementioned, sidewalk improvements in the Miami Gardens neighborhood (funded by a Broward County CDBG Grant) was recently awarded by the city commission.

Finally, permit applications were submitted by electrical, gas, and communication/fiber entities to place underground conduits in various sections of the city.  These upgrades help to enhance grid reliability and resilience, provide protection for utilities, and prepare for future expansion of network infrastructure.  Advance notifications will be issued to neighboring residents by each utility company prior to the commencement of this work with restoration of all disturbed areas prior to project closeout.
