New improvements to McTyre Park

By Dan Millien….
The City of West Park recently completed some major improvements to McTyre Park to improve our level of service for our residents. These improvements were funded from the 35th Year Community Development Block Grant.
First on the agenda was to enhance our youth sports programs by adding a multipurpose scoreboard that will serve as a vital instrument in giving our youth confidence and pride in their accomplishments as they play sports at the park.

We also added some security features during the project, including the installation of hurricane shutters and a shade cover for the playground area. The shade cover is to serve as protection from the sun and rain for our youth, as we know it can get pretty hot here in South Florida.

Another goal of the grant project was to improve the aesthetic features of McTyre Park to foster residents’ pride in the recreational programs offered by the City. Beautiful landscaping was also installed around the monument sign at the corner of S.W. 56th Avenue and 34th Street.

Finally, the restrooms at the concession area were also renovated.

Many thanks to the residents, staff members, City Commission, and friends of West Park, whose hard work and efforts made these improvements possible. As always, for the Public Works and Parks and Recreation staff, maintaining a safe and clean environment at our parks remains Priority Number One.
