This past February, also known as Black History Month, we celebrated leaders who are of African descent who have impacted our history in a positive way. I want to thank activists, past freedom fighters, and historians who played an integral role. Let us continue to strive for excellence within our community.
Let us honor our women as March is known as WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH. This year more than ever, we are happy to celebrate women from the past and present. We celebrate Harriet Tubman, a freedom fighter, Ruth Bader Ginsberg, the former Supreme Court judge who played an integral role in women’s laws. There are so many women who deserve to be honored, but this year we are elated about having the first female Vice President, who happens to be black. This moment will impact girls not only here within our country, but girls around the world, as she continues to pave the way throughout her tenure as Vice President.
Moreover, residents of Broward County who are 65 years or older and who are frontline healthcare workers are eligible to take the Covid-19 vaccine. For vaccination appointments, please call 1-866-201-6313, for those who requires TTY access you may call 1-833-476-1526. I am encouraging everyone within our community to get vaccinated when eligible. As we continue to fight against this deadly virus, I am encouraging our residents to keep practicing social distancing, mask wearing, and washing and/or sanitizing their hands. If possible, try to limit interactions with individuals who are not in your household, especially those who are not vaccinated.
During the Lent period, Christians usually give up something for 40 days, whether it’s food or a change in routine. One thing I know is that all Christians, faith believers, and agnostics are praying that they will see the end of this pandemic. Let us continue to fast, pray, or wish for a change in course for this pandemic, because the sooner it ends, the better it is for us all.
