As we pause to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., let us remember his lifelong passion and commitment to securing equality for all. This year, it seems particularly appropriate to remember Dr. King’s crusade for the ballot as we continue to fight against voter disenfranchisement.
This year, let us honor Dr. King by demanding an equal path to the ballot for all Americans. In 1965, we were fighting to get the ballot. Today, it seems, we must demand that we keep it.
So, on this MLK Day, honor Dr. King by registering to vote, encouraging others to register to vote. Register online at http://ow.ly/vEXS50HoxUH or if you’re already registered, you can check your voter registration status at: https://www.browardvotes.gov/Voter Information/Voter-LookupFree-Access-System.
We also have the power to do something kind for others, to make the world a better place by taking positive action (even if we don’t all have the opportunity to be inspirational activists and leaders like Dr. King), but sometimes when life gets busy or we’re overwhelmed by our own stress, we can forget about the positive power we wield on a daily basis. In honor of Dr. King (and positive, forward-thinking leaders everywhere), I encourage you to embrace that power and do (at least!) one small positive thing to make someone else’s life just a little bit better.
There is no real limit to what we can do to help others. Remember, service is the price you pay for the space you occupy. We have a lot of work to do in our city, county, state, and country to even come close to Dr. King’s dream! Let’s get to work on this holiday and every day! We are #ONEWESTPARK!
