Summer Celebrations! From the desk of Commissioner Kristine Judeikis

summer photo 1May was a busy month! It started out with a wonderful activity at the Fire Ops 101 training sponsored by the Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) Firefighters Union. The event was held at the BSO Fire Academy. Although unable to participate myself this year, I was able to attend and support our City Staff: City Manager, Ajibola Balogun, City Clerk, Alexandra Grant, Supervisor of Administrative Services, Maritza Prebal, and Administrative Assistant, Gia Lagana. The event was amazing and everyone appreciated and realized what our fine men and women of the BSO Fire Department have to deal with on any given day fighting fire hazards or providing other vital rescue services that protect us and our families.

THANK YOU TO OUR FIRE DEPARTMENT PERSONNEL!

The following weekend we celebrated Mother’s Day at our Mother’s Day Denim, Diamonds and Dazzle Brunch held at McTyre Park, where everyone in attendance had a lovely time. There were makeovers for those who desired, great food and music, and everyone left with a special Mother’s Day gift, compliments of the City. Thank you to Mr. Cesar Garcia, Director of Parks and Recreation, and his staff for this special day. As the month came to a close, Visions of Images, Inc. held its 12th Annual Peppermint Prom for the seniors in the area. There were close to 100 senior citizens in attendance from Dania Beach, Hallandale, Hollywood, and of course, our own senior center at McTyre Park. The event was held at the West Park Veterans of Foreign Wares (VFW) Post 8195. The West Park seniors elected the 2016 Prom King, Mr. Willie Banks, and for a second time Ms. Gloria Benton was elected Prom Queen. During the event the seniors also took time to honor Mr. Larry Hardy with a plaque thanking him for his hard work and dedication in ensuring they receive a hot breakfast on Tuesday mornings and for the wonderful food at their prom and holiday luncheon. They also presented Felicia Brunson with a plaque recognizing her hard work and dedication to them over the years, from the prom to the holiday party, and all the holiday events in between. Finally, I had the honor of attending the Changing of the Guard/Installation of Officers Ceremony at the West Park VFW Post 8195. Commander Bobby White has handed over the gavel and leadership of the club after more than 10 years to Phil Davis. The VFW and the City of West Park have had a wonderful working relationship over the years and Phil promises for it to continue. I look forward to working with Commander Davis and his team in the future. Thank you Commander for including me in this special day! It was a beautiful ceremony filled with military precision and pomp and circumstance. It truly was an honor to be included. As we roll into June, I would like to take a moment to congratulate all this year’s graduates and wish you luck in your future endeavors whatever they may be.
