Greetings neighbors! We approach the half year mark of 2024, and it has been a joy and honor to represent you and your concerns. For those that may not know me, I have been a lifelong resident, for five generations, of this community. Although I have been representing the concerns of our residents for almost a decade, I am still the newest member of the Commission, elected in November of 2022; my earnest desire has been to represent the will of our community and my goal has been to always keep our community first in every decision-making phase. True to my goal, I have advocated for a better communication plan to keep residents informed as to what is going on in and around our community. As of January 2024, I have started hosting Commissioner Touchstone Town Hall Meeting with the goal to speak to residents within each subdivision to hear directly from you, our most important stakeholder, and to collaborate with residents and business owners to work together to create the community we can all enjoy and thrive in. However, change or to bring about change takes working together and being solution oriented and open to new ideas. This is where providing your input becomes very important. I am asking that residents engage in what is going on locally and participate whenever possible.
I am a firm believer that transparency brings about accountability and we all have a duty to actively participate in our general wellbeing. I would like to remind you that the City of West Park has public meetings every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month, beginning at 7 p.m. and that our agendas and meetings are available to be live streamed and reviewed on our website at www.cityofwestpark.org. The city also has text blast and email alerts that you may sign up and subscribe to for important updates. In addition to these platforms, the city has a Facebook page, so make sure to follow.
Secondarily, Commissioner Dr. Touchstone has two community led Facebook groups “West Park Word of Mouth” and “West Park Word of Mouth Public” as well as a Commissioner Facebook Page “Dr. Katrina Touchstone Commissioner Seat 1, City of West Park”. Please take the opportunity to follow and join these online communities. In addition to these pathways, I am always accessible via WhatsApp in addition to my city email and cellphone at: ktouchstone@cityofwestpark.org and 954-477-9718. Let’s take this time to spring into action, as I am here to serve you.
I would like to take this time to wish everyone a Happy Cinco de Mayo, Mother’s Day, and Memorial Day. May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and it’s a great opportunity to tune into your emotions and ask your loved ones how they’re doing. Additionally, May has several holidays that focus on mental health, including National Anxiety Disorders Screening Day, National Mental Health Provider Appreciation Day, and National Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day. Take a step back from the rat race and enjoy World Meditation Day or release some energy while running around on National Play Outside Day. Your mental health is your wealth. Please take all necessary steps to strengthen your mental health and seek additional resources where needed. As a reminder the city has partnered with Memorial Healthcare with West Park Families Matter to provide mental health services. For more information, call: 754-246-9126.
