The Youth Council members had a great summer! In addition to many volunteering activities, they also visited a few colleges and universities around Florida. Due to many barriers and sometimes unfamiliarity, there may be less of an expectation for some youth to attend college. It is a goal of ours for our students to visit different colleges. We want our Youth Council members to become familiar with the colleges they are most interested in and also get a better understanding of what types of schools are the best fit for their unique needs. This summer our members visited University of South Florida, University of Tampa, and Florida Atlantic University. Our participants got the opportunity to see the physical spaces, how each campus was decorated, and how students interacted with each other.
One of the Youth Council’s activities this summer was volunteering at Feeding South Florida. Feeding South Florida’s mission is to end hunger in South Florida by providing immediate access to nutritious food, leading hunger and poverty advocacy efforts and transforming lives through innovative programming and education. Our Youth Council members volunteered with inspecting, sorting and boxing food that will be distributed to thousands of families throughout South Florida.
