Broadway stars, dazzlingly acrobats, a classic children’s tale and the best of foreign films ring in the New Year at the Aventura Arts and Cultural Center

Kicking off 2014, the City of Aventura presents Cirque Zuma Zuma on Friday, January 3 at 8 p.m. This high-energy dance act – part Cirque du Soleil, part Harlem Globetrotters – is fast-paced and full of acrobatic ingenuity. Audiences will experience the blend between traditional and a wide variety of arts and circus skills performed in an African style. Tickets are $39.50 and $34.50.

On Thursday, January 9 at 8 p.m., Tony Award® nominee Emily Skinner will take the audience on a musical journey through the best of the Great White Way in a spectacular evening filled with glorious music by composers such as Rodgers and Hammerstein, Lerner and Lowe, Kander and Ebb, Stephen Sondheim, George Gershwin, Jerome Kern and Irving Berlin, as well as Broadway’s hottest up-and-comers. Tickets are $39.50.

Shelly Isaacs hosts The Pool, the third film in the Aventura Foreign Film Series, on Tuesday, January 14 at 7 p.m. This touching story is about a “room boy” working at a hotel in Panjim, Goa, who sees a luxuriant garden and shimmering pool hidden behind a wall of the home next door. To better his life, he volunteers his services to the wealthy homeowner and his curiosity changes the shape of his future. Tickets are $10 and the film is shown in Hindi with English subtitles.

Flipside: The Patti Page Story, will be presented on Friday, January 24 at 8 p.m. Winner of 18 National Awards at the Kennedy Center Honors, this recent Off-Broadway musical celebration chronicles the rise to stardom of one of the most iconic female recording artists in history. The “Singin’ Rage, Miss Patti Page” accrued a staggering 111 hits on the Billboard charts and more than $100 million in record sales. Tickets are $45.50.

On Wednesday, January 29 at 8 p.m., two time TONY Award nominee and Obie and Drama Desk Award winner Brian d’Arcy James plays out his rock ‘n roll fantasies with tunes from artists including Billy Joel and Phil Collins, in a show that has won rave reviews from audiences and critics, such as the New York Times. Tickets are $39.50.

The Broward Center for the Performing Arts manages the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center, a 14,864-square-foot, 326-seat waterfront complex that hosts performing arts, cultural and educational programming for all ages.
