Visit to Keys Gate Charter & Keys Gate Charter High

Welcome_BatemanOn Wednesday, February 13th, I had the pleasure of visiting Keys Gate Charter School and Keys Gate Charter High School. The visit began in the K-2 building, then to Keys Gate Charter High and then to the 3-7 building.

In the K-2 Building I visited classrooms, witnessed a wonderful presentation by the cheerleaders and a skit about what Keys Gate Charter School means
to them.

In the high school, the Cambridge students hosted a political discussion followed by a tour guided by the SGA and Key Club Presidents.

In the 3-7 building, I visited some more classrooms, took questions from students and met with the Student Government and National Honor Society Officers and Advisors. This talented group of students had prepared questions related to improving our community.

Being that Keys Gate Charter High School was the first new high school in Homestead in 30 years, I have always held this as one of our biggest and most meaningful accomplishments. I was truly impressed with Principal McKnight’s leadership.  The motivation and energy that resonates from the staff and students It is obvious the staff is fully in control of organization and programs the school offers.
