Palmetto High, Middle students honored by Reflections Program

To the Editor:

Each year the National PTA has encouraged students across the nation to explore their artistic talents.

The PTA’s Reflections Program is designed to enhance quality arts education for students by encouraging them to create works of art in the areas of dance choreography, film production, literature, musical composition, photography, and the visual arts. The Reflections Program encourages the creativity and lifelong learning of students, and offers them recognition for their artistic endeavors.

Thousands of students throughout Miami-Dade County entered works of art reflecting on this year’s theme “Let Your Imagination Soar.” Four students from Palmetto High were chosen as Miami-Dade County PTA Reflections Program winners. Finalists are Nanako Takeyama and Alcimarina Comeron. Honorable Mention are Alex Gonglewski and Melissa Leiva Rivero. Two students from Palmetto Middle School were Finalists in the Literature category: Emily Osman and Jake Zimelman.

The Finalists from Palmetto Elementary include Leena Netto and Mia Tanner for Literature, Lucas Netto for Music Composition, Emma Leonardo for Photography, and Tegan O’Quinn for Visual Arts. Honorable mention from Palmetto Elementary include Jazzy Beerkircher, Thibault Carbonell, Emma Dodel and Amanda Leiva for Literature.

These students each will receive an award that honors their imagination and creativity.

The finalist will represent Miami-Dade County in the Florida PTA Reflections Program. If a student wins at the Florida competition, they move on to the National PTA competition.

There will be an awards ceremony on Jan. 21, 6:30 p.m., at Jose de Diego Middle School where these students will be presented with certificates for their work.

It is always nice to celebrate our amazing students.

Best Regards,
Eileen Johnston
