Church’s Chicken recently announced its 2016 Church’s Scholars.
Among the scholarship recipients are area students: Kevin Rodriguez from Westminster Christian School; Laura Rubio, Raina Levin, and Julia Rothfield from Coral Reef Senior High School; Stephanie Perez and Amanda Perez from MAST Academy; Mia Bravo from Monsignor Edward Pace High School; Jesse Cabauy from Dade Christian School, and Adena Dass from Palmer Trinity School.
These students were among 225 high school seniors across 16 states who were selected to each receive $1,000 toward their college tuition.
Church’s Partners Foundation Inc. oversees this program that recognizes students for their educational merit. Scholarships may be used toward college tuitions during the 2016-17 academic year at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university or vocational/trade school in the United States.
“We are incredibly proud of these students who represent the South Florida area and are excited to help them achieve their goals of going to college,” said Ed Brett, Chief Human Resources Officer for Church’s Chicken. “The Church’s Scholars Program allows us to give back to the communities that have supported us throughout the years.”
The South Florida students were among 15,000 other applicants for the $225,000 in scholarships. Students had to demonstrate key achievements to be considered for funding, including grade point average, work experience, and involvement in extracurricular school and community activities.
Through the generous support of participating company and franchise Church’s Chicken restaurants, the Church’s Partners Foundation was able to increase scholarship funding by more than 28 percent this year. A primary generator of funding is the annual Church’s in-restaurant Scholars coupon book promotion in which participating restaurants provide a coupon booklet filled with Church’s value to any guest who donates $1 at checkout. Additional funds are supplemented by direct contributions from franchisees and vendors.
