While national trends often overtake even the most local elected officials, one elected official stands out from the rest. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, who serves our community in Congress, has never forgotten who she represents.
Ros-Lehtinen, a longtime Pinecrest resident, graduated from Southwest High School and earned her Associates in Arts from Miami-Dade College. She earned both her Bachelors and Masters degrees from Florida International University and her doctorate from the University of Miami. She has raised her family in our community and recently welcomed her fourth grandchild into our slice of paradise. Her family’s ethos of service is also encapsulated by her husband, Dexter, who is a former U.S. Attorney who volunteered for service in Vietnam and was severely wounded in combat, as well as her stepson, Doug, who served our nation in Iraq, and daughter-in-law, Lindsay, who served our nation in Iraq and Afghanistan. Ileana works hard for South Florida and she has a personal stake in its growth and betterment.
We see her in South Miami, Pinecrest, Coral Gables, Miami Beach, Brickell, Palmetto Bay, Cutler Bay, and, frankly, everywhere. She is warm, accessible, and principled. In short, Ros-Lehtinen is a legislator who represents her district with conviction and with enthusiasm no matter the political consequences. She is always available to help with constituent service issues at a moment’s notice. Some may bluster but, as her advocacy for the dredging of the Miami River demonstrated, Ros-Lehtinen delivers.
In the Republican primary for the 27th Congressional District, there is no comparison. Our support goes to Ileana Ros-Lehtinen.
