James Field

Field moved to Miami when he was a small child, was raised there, went to Gulliver Preparatory School, and played division-one college golf before turning professional and finishing school at the University of Miami. After traveling the world as a competitive professional golfer, he became the director of business development for Frey Farms, one of the country’s largest agriculture companies. He now consults with both emerging and established brands on product innovation, supply chain management, and business development. He is involved in several philanthropic causes, including Charity Vision, for which he traveled to India to help build eye-care centers with former presidential candidate Mitt Romney. He is a member of Best Buddies, a charity headed by Anthony Kennedy Shriver, and also hosted a local event for Operation Underground Railroad that raised more than $150,000 to save children from the sex-slave trade.

All candidates were asked the following questions:

1) If elected, what would you do in the first 100 days?
“My first 100 days will be characterized by a top-to-bottom review of Public Safety. It is imperative that we return to a fully staffed police department. With direct input from our citizens, I will conduct a review of the ways by which we can ensure community policing becomes a reality here in our village. To do so, we need a department that is properly staffed, equipped, and well managed – whereby ensuring our residents get the highest levels of safety and security. I also propose rebuilding our broken relationship with Florida Power & Light; and support a ‘Hurricane Rapid Response Fund’ to ensure that the mistakes of Hurricane Irma are not repeated. Finally, I will work with local, state, and federal officials to develop a plan whereby all residents have direct access to city water – without connection fees.”

2) What motivated you to run for office?
“What motivates me to run for office is simple. Having witnessed the political process first-hand in Washington, advocating for agriculture and farming, testifying before Congress, and building successful verticals in multiple lines of business, I want to apply my efforts and talents closer to home. I believe my experience in politics, business, and philanthropy make me an ideal voice for the Village of Pinecrest. The driving force behind my desire to serve Pinecrest is to protect the heritage, beauty, and people of my hometown, a sentiment that is embodied in the founding principles of our municipality’s incorporation: ‘To provide saturated police protection, control our own zoning, to beautify our neighborhoods, and to make decisions on how our municipal tax dollars will be spent.’ Most importantly, I love the Village of Pinecrest and want to give back to it in the best way that I know how.”

3) Why do you think you would be the best candidate for the position?
“I consider myself to be the best-qualified candidate for Village of Pinecrest Council Seat 4. Being a Pinecrest native with four generations of my family living locally, I am truly humbled by the prospect of representing my fellow residents at Village Hall.”
