When Nick Merico was 12 years old, he auditioned for the Aventura Marketing Council/Chamber of Commerce’s (AMC) first signature event in 2010, the YOUNG STARS SHOWCASE. Amazing voice, superb stage presence, great personality…this gorgeous young kid had it all!
For those in the audience that year, they knew they were watching a very special young talent. Nick worked hard on his voice and songs, and then, at age 15, his voice began to change. Quite normal, but instead of lasting the usual 3-6 months, it lasted two years, causing him to put aside his dreams of singing. He had already been working on his acting skills, and in 2013, he was chosen as a lead in Nickelodeon’s teenaged television show “Every Which Way” and became a ‘heartthrob’ for thousands upon thousands of teenage girls. After four years of the tv show, he was ready to move forward as a singer. It soon became apparent that he needed to be in California to pursue his passion…writing original music and singing. In March 2019, he appeared on Season 18 of American Idol, and received unanimous positive remarks from all the Judges and was voted on to the next level. But Nick had some other career projects he first had to handle, and graciously bowed out of that season’s American Idol. In late 2019, American Idol producers called Nick and told him that they really wanted him to audition with the judges again.
That audition aired February 16th, where Nick received career advice from the Judges consisting of Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan before giving him their unanimous approval to move to the next level in Hollywood. The Aventura Marketing Council/Chamber of Commerce is encouraging all of South Florida to follow Nick on his journey, and when he reaches the point where the public can vote for him, to do just that—many times over for our hometown boy!
