Miami-Dade Transit fares and parking fees will be reinstated for the general public beginning on Tuesday, June 1. Riders will have plenty of safe, contactless options to pay the fare, including mobile passes, contactless-enabled bank cards, and digital wallets.
Transit fares and fees were suspended as of Mar. 22, 2020 as a safety measure during the height of the coronavirus pandemic. As the positivity rate continues to trend in the right direction and vaccination eligibility and access expand, the Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) is preparing to resume fare collection this summer.
“Earlier this year, we hosted a virtual town hall and conducted a survey to hear directly from residents, especially our transit riders, about transit fares,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. “Based on all the feedback we heard, we continued the fare suspension throughout the spring, and we’re announcing the return of fares now to give riders plenty of time to prepare. We are also continuing programs to support transit riders impacted by COVID who are still struggling financially.
“I am proud of how far we’ve come as a community in our fight against COVID-19 and we’ll be working hard in the months ahead to ensure all residents can access the vaccine, as we continue the safety measures and precautions that work to prevent the spread of the virus,” Mayor Levine Cava added.
Beginning Thursday, May 20, transit riders can purchase mobile passes via the GO Miami-Dade Transit app, which will be pre-loaded onto the app.
Special pass customers — such as those riders enrolled in the College Discount Program, Corporate Discount Program, and K-12 Discount Program — as well as those previously enrolled in auto-reload are asked to verify their status by logging into their Transit Store account. Riders who have been affected by the pandemic and are suffering economic hardships may qualify for free or reduced fare passes. For questions regarding Transit Store accounts or any of the reduced fare programs, riders can call the EASY Card customer service line at 786-469-5151 or reach the team via email at easycard@miamidade.gov.
In addition to special passes, mobile passes, digital wallets, and contactless-enabled bank cards or credit cards, traditional methods of payment, such as EASY Cards and Tickets, will continue to be accepted.
DTPW will continue to follow the latest guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Florida Department of Health (FDOH), and U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and Miami-Dade County to ensure the actions being taken are comprehensive and appropriate.
