During the summer, we would like to remind families that they are an integral part of their children’s education. Now, more than ever, families are the key to motivating and stimulating academic interest in their children.
The Parent Academy (TPA) is one of Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ greatest sources to access information and vital resources for families. Its mission is to motivate parents and encourage them to become active partners in their children’s education. The main goals of the department are to educate, engage, empower and encourage families to reach their full potential.
For the second consecutive year, TPA is launching a series of virtual educational sessions in July as part of Synergy 2021 to prepare families and caregivers for a successful school year. Synergy, now in its eighth year, is an annual premier professional development event where school staff prepares for the coming school year.
This typical three-day event has been expanded to three weeks this summer in an effort to provide parents, caregivers and educational leaders access to training on various topics to help children transition back to face-to-face learning, mitigate learning gaps, address physical and social emotional needs, and support families during this critical period of recovery.
This year’s theme, “Strength Reimagined,” focuses on highlighting the support and strength parents and educators have shown and continue to show during this unprecedented time.
Registration is now open for the 25 live interactive webinar sessions covering nine relevant topics. Morning sessions are at 10 a.m., and evening sessions are at 6 p.m.
Topics include challenging behaviors, gifted learners, iReady, mindful parenting, home-school communication, parents as leaders and resources from several educational platforms.
Space is limited to 500 attendees per session. Additionally, beginning July 1, 16 pre-recorded sessions became available for parents and caregivers to view at their leisure. The sessions in English, Spanish and Haitian-Creole will be posted on the Synergy section of TPA’s website.
