SFYS to perform in a free Halloween concert, Oct. 30, at Miracle Theatre
Members of the South Florida Youth Symphony, under the direction of Marjorie Hahn, will be in costume to perform a free Halloween concert, “Jack-O’-Lantern Jubilee,” Oct. 30, at the Miracle Theatre.

The South Florida Youth Symphony, one of the nation’s leading youth music organizations, will perform in Coral Gables during a free Halloween concert, “Jack-O’-Lantern Jubilee,” on Oct. 30, at the historic Miracle Theatre, 280 Miracle Mile.

Doors open at 4:30 p.m. for the 5 p.m. “pre-dinner” performance. Social distance seating will be in place with a limit of 300 attendees. Masks are required.

“We are thrilled to be able to perform in Coral Gables as part of the Halloween on the Mile activation,” said Marjorie Hahn, SFYS executive and music director. “We look forward to performing at the Miracle Theatre in a safe setting for all. It’s a beautiful venue.”

Now in its 57th consecutive year, the SFYS has performed world-wide over the last five decades. In recent years they won a Gold Medal at the prestigious Heritage Music Festival in Washington, DC in 2017; performed at Carnegie Hall in 2018, and captured Gold at the Young Bohemian 2019 Music Festival in Prague, Czech Republic. When the COVID-19 pandemic forced the talented young musicians to practice via ZOOM and perform virtual concerts, they captured a prestigious Suncoast Emmy for their third online concert.

In keeping with the Halloween theme, the musicians will perform while in costume. The kids in the audience — who will receive “goodie bags” following the concert — also are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes.

“The annual Halloween on the Mile event in Downtown Coral Gables returns this year with a full program of experiential activities, performances and, of course, trick-or-treating,” said Aura Reinhardt, executive director of the Business Improvement District of Coral Gables.

“We are pleased to activate our Downtown with a safe and exciting way for residents of Coral Gables and visitors alike to experience the holiday with us. For more information, follow us on @experiencecoralgables.”

SFYS program is sponsored with the support of the City of Coral Gables, Miami Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs, Miami Dade County Mayor and County Commissioners, Children’s Trust, Miami Dade County Office of Management and Budget, State of Florida Division of Cultural Affairs, Kirk Foundation, Publix Charities, and Nancy Friday Foundation.
