The City of Aventura is very fortunate, indeed! Aventura Police Chief Bryan Pegues will become Aventura’s new Assistant City Manager and Police Major Michael Bentolila will become the new Chief effective November 29, 2021 at a swearing-in ceremony.
Mayor Enid Weisman said, “Rarely does a municipality hit the daily double. But that’s exactly what happened when our City promoted current Police Chief Bryan Pegues to the position of Deputy City Manager and promoted Major Michael Bentolila to the position of Aventura’s Chief of Police. Our City is incredibly fortunate to be able to keep both of these amazing human beings in the city that they love. Bryan and Michael have worked together for a combined total of 48 years in Aventura. Now we have ensured that both of these fine gentlemen will continue to work for our City for many years to come. It would be hard to find a happier Mayor!”
Major Bentolila has been with the Aventura Police Department since its inception in 1997 where he started as an Officer, moved up to Detective, then Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain and in 2019, he became Major after having served in all three divisions within the agency
Both the residential and commercial communities of Aventura have recognized Major Bentolila’s dedication to the City and to keeping residents, businesses and visitors safe. His leadership and administrative skills are strong, as are his community ties. Major Bentolila’s background and hands-on experience will serve him well as he takes over the Aventura Police Department from another outstanding professional, Chief Bryan Pegues.
Major Bentolila said, “The City of Aventura and this police department have become my family. Taking on this new role, allows me to continue my professional journey in the place I call home.”
