To commemorate October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Pubbelly Sushi raised $7,950 from its “Drink Pink” fundraiser and presented the check to Tangela Hillery who runs the wig program for Cancer Support Services during the check presentation on Nov. 10 at the Sylvester Courtyard.
The money raised, which doubled from last year’s efforts, benefits Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.
In attendance included Britten King, senior director of development, Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center; Bryant Escobedo, general manager, Pubbelly Sushi Brickell; Elizabeth Inciarte, community marketing manager, Pubbelly Development; Emilia Picon, senior marketing manager, King Goose Hospitality Group; Jessica MacIntyre, APRN, NP-C, AOCNP, executive director, Clinical Operations, Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center; Sebastian Mesa, general manager, Pubbelly Sushi Miami Beach; Shawn Host, general manager, Pubbelly Sushi Dadeland, and Tangela Hillery, BSW, concierge coordinator, Cancer Support Services, Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center.
The promotion, which ran the entire month of October, featured the restaurant’s limited-time-only Pink Sangria, made with sparkling rosé, a dash of sprite, guava, a whole muddled strawberry, and a twist of lime.
Founded in 2017, the wig program provides roughly 300 patients with wigs, turbans or head scarves each year. Each wig costs the center $50 and provides help and dignity to many deserving patients and survivors.
