Palmer Trinity School (PTS) in Palmetto Bay recently welcomed a delegation of 18 visitors from Limoges, France who traveled to Miami to engage in an athletic exchange on campus.
Fourteen players and four coaches from the ASPTT Limoges U17 Club Basketball Team were hosted for a week by 10 PTS varsity and junior varsity basketball families and five PTS faculty, spending a day on campus, touring Miami sights and participating in a basketball tournament.
During a luncheon in their honor, the players were visited by the “Voice of the Miami Heat,” Michael Baiamonte. Palmer Trinity will reciprocate this exchange in late June when the varsity basketball team travels to Limoges and Paris.
The exchange was organized by Derek Smith, Global Scholar in Residence at Palmer Trinity School. Smith also teaches Asian History, Theory of Knowledge in the IB Program, serves as an advisor to Model United Nations, and coaches middle school baseball.
“A special thanks to the PTS student athletes and PTS faculty who, along with their families, opened their hearts, minds and homes to our French guests,” Smith said.
During their stay, the French student-athlete guests attended classes with their PTS host brothers and played a basketball tournament against the Falcons Varsity Basketball team, as well as teams from Gulliver Prep and Ransom Everglades.
